'9-1-1-' Season 8 Episode 10 "Voices"

Writer: Je-ReeJe-Ree

9-1-1 came back from winter break swinging and hitting home runs. This episode titled voices touched on a character, Amber that developed a split personality disorder after suffering her own kidnapping trauma. It was a scary episode because you never knew what was going to happen next. Jennifer Love Hewitt and guest star Abigail Spencer did a fantastic job.

We learn that Maddy was kidnapped by the missing persons detective Amber and that she was behind all those girls going missing. When Chimney and Buck get home from dinner and find her missing, they sound the alarm to get the whole gang together to find her. Of course, they mention her previous postpartum depression and how she left after having Jee-Yun. But they know this feels off and different than the last time.

Athena also finds it strange that Amber is not answering her phone, so she enlists the help of Detective Romero for help. At this point, I do not understand why Athena will not become a full-time detective. They are able to speak to the victim that was rescued last episode and learn that there was a woman involved in the kidnapping. Athena and Romero also visit the medical examiner and learn that the prime suspect did not kill himself.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but it is not a crime for Maddy to have tried to get a caller to harm themselves. I was very confused by that aspect of this storyline. We will suspend disbelief for the sake of the episode and storyline.

Meanwhile, Maddy is able to also piece together Amber’s backstory around the same time Athena does. Before she can get away, she is in the fight of her life as Amber slits her throat. She miraculously survives right as Chim is upstairs confronting Amber. Another fight breaks out and Athena with the calvary shows up to take Amber down. Maddy is rushed to the hospital and learns she and Chim are having a boy.

Everything wraps up nicely with Buck and Eddie saying goodbye as Eddie moves back to Texas to be with Chris. It really felt like an afterthought and unfinished. Eddie must be coming back somehow, right?

What was up with Buck not being more concerned about Maddy and why is it that Bobby and Athena never really have any scenes together anymore? The whole vibe at 9-1-1 feels off but the episode was good and well-acted.
