ABC Unveils Midseason Schedule: The Rookie, Will Trent, Tim Allen Comedy, and Extended Break for Thursday Dramas
ABC has revealed its midseason programming schedule, featuring the return of fan favorites like The Rookie and Will Trent, as well as exciting new premieres, including the Tim Allen/Kat Dennings sitcom Shifting Gears.
Viewers can expect a packed January lineup, with several major shows returning after a lengthy break, including The Rookie and Will Trent, both of which have been off-air since May 21. When these series return, they'll feature 18 uninterrupted episodes, with only a possible presidential address as a potential interruption.
Both The Rookie and Will Trent have become central to ABC's schedule, with Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, noting the strategic timing of their January premieres. "Launching in January, when we have such a large promotional platform with New Year's Rockin' Eve, college sports, and Christmas programming, felt like the best way to ensure success for these shows," Erwich explained.
Alongside these major returns, ABC is also bringing back several other popular series, including The Conners, which will begin its mini-farewell run in March, as well as Press Your Luck and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, which will return in the new year.
