In Animal Control Season 3, Episode 2, titled "Rattlers and Gators," the team faces a chaotic day filled with mishaps and moments of unexpected success. The episode begins with a rattlesnake bite incident involving Frank. While on a call, Frank gets bit by a rattlesnake, and the team rushes to his aid, but there’s a problem: the truck’s cooler is stocked with Otter Pops, not the life-saving anti-venom they need. Frank, not one to panic, suggests trying to suck out the poison, much to the dismay of his coworkers, who are skeptical about his methods. As they drive to meet up with the rest of the team, things continue to spiral, with Shred trying to "help" by using his teeth and tongue to attempt a cure. Meanwhile, the whole team, especially Officer Patel, is getting frantic trying to make sure Frank survives.
Back at the precinct, Emily is preparing for the visit of Fiona Holcomb, a successful lifestyle brand mogul who could be the key to securing much-needed funding for their overcrowded animal shelter. Emily instructs everyone to look "busy but not frantic," and even assigns scripts for their interactions with Fiona. Emily’s nerves are palpable as she anticipates the visit, and even gets frustrated when Frank takes the day off, thinking his attitude might make the visit difficult. But despite her best efforts to keep the day running smoothly, things quickly go off the rails.
As Fiona arrives early, Emily scrambles to handle her, showing off the office’s "bullpen" and presenting the officers in their best light, though the presentation is far from flawless. Shred, who’s more focused on his social media presence than anything else, gets a little too enthusiastic about his pitch, while Patel, who has been living his best influencer life, struggles with the newfound attention. Things take a sharp turn when Frank unexpectedly shows up at the office despite his day off, claiming he's just there to meet Fiona since he’s a fan. It’s clear he’s not exactly following the plan, and when he tries to join the ride-along with Fiona, Emily is annoyed but reluctantly allows it, knowing it might help get her on the board.
As Frank and Fiona head out, their ride-along becomes a series of increasingly awkward moments. Frank’s attempt to charm Fiona is borderline inappropriate, even as he deflects any accusations of flirting by saying he’s just being his charming self. Meanwhile, Fiona hints at her frustrations with the job, even joking about the coyote situation. But as the day goes on, Frank finds himself accidentally creating more tension, even though the ride-along is largely successful. Despite Frank’s behavior, Fiona seems impressed enough to join the board, although it’s clear that her decision has less to do with Frank’s antics and more to do with her own judgment.
Meanwhile, Patel’s social media fame as Officer Thumbs continues to grow, even getting an invitation to throw the first pitch at a local baseball game. He’s thrilled, but his excitement comes with a side of pressure—he wants to impress everyone, including Fiona. However, things go awry when Patel’s performance at the game causes chaos. As he prepares for the pitch, he starts to second-guess his form and decides to go for a "heat" pitch, which ends in disaster. The result is a painful blow to Wargo, the player on the receiving end, leading to an emergency medical situation at the stadium. Patel’s ego takes a hit as his social media following plummets, and the entire team is left dealing with the fallout of his antics.
Back at the precinct, things take another turn as Frank and Fiona find themselves in a tense moment with an alligator that has escaped from someone’s backyard. The team manages to contain the situation, but the whole episode is a series of small disasters and miscommunications, leading to Fiona’s decision to join the board. Emily is relieved but also annoyed that Frank’s behavior nearly sabotaged the entire effort. Still, the team ends up securing Fiona’s support, though not in the way they’d expected.
In the final moments of the episode, Emily and the team debrief, with Fiona ultimately joining the board and expressing her belief in the cause. However, Fiona’s final words highlight the uneasy mix of tension and success—she’s impressed with the work the team is doing but is less than thrilled with the chaotic interactions, especially Frank’s antics. Emily is left reflecting on the day’s events, acknowledging that while things ended well, Frank’s behavior may have been more than just a little embarrassing.
The episode closes with Frank and the team dealing with the aftermath, with Emily joking about Frank’s "vibe" with Fiona, and Frank subtly boasting about his own charm. It’s a classic moment of Animal Control humor: absurd situations, clashing personalities, and unexpected victories. Fiona’s decision to join the board, however, is a bittersweet one for Emily, knowing that they’ve survived the day but barely. It’s clear that while their work may be making progress, they still have a long way to go in terms of handling their internal dynamics and dealing with the challenges of animal control. The team might have secured the funding they need, but they’ve also learned that things rarely go according to plan.
