'Beyond the Gates' Writing Room Revealed

CBS's upcoming daytime drama Beyond The Gates has officially confirmed its Season 1 writing team, which includes some notable names from daytime's storied past and a fresh, groundbreaking approach to the genre. The soap, set to premiere on February 24, 2025, marks a historic moment for daytime television as the first-ever one-hour Black daytime soap and the first new drama since Passions in 1999.

The writing staff boasts a mix of daytime veterans and fresh voices, including Susan Dansby (The Young and The Restless, Ambitions) as script editor and Michael Montgomery (The Young and The Restless) as continuity producer. The breakdown writing team features high-profile soap writers such as Ron Carlivati (former Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, and One Life to Live head writer), Sara Bibel (The Young and the Restless), and Gregori Martin (The Bay), alongside newcomers to the soap world, like New York Times Bestselling YA author Danielle Paige (Guiding Light, Days of Our Lives) and Jazmen Darnell Brown (BMF, Days of Our Lives, Ambitions).

In a groundbreaking move, the show will also feature an all-Black scriptwriting team, including Judy Tate (Another World, Days of Our Lives), Cheryl Davis (Law & Order: SVU, Days of Our Lives), and Lynn Martin (Port Charles, The City), among others. This team represents a significant step forward in both diversity and representation in daytime television.

Beyond The Gates will center on the Duprees, a powerful Black political family in a posh Maryland suburb near Washington, D.C. The series has already begun production in Atlanta, with an impressive cast led by Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Daphnee Duplaix, Karla Mosley, and Alex Alegria.

The serialized drama is a collaboration between CBS Studios/NAACP Venture and P&G Studios and will be distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Fans can expect a new era in daytime drama with Beyond The Gates, a series that promises to explore complex family dynamics, power struggles, and the nuances of Black political and social life in America.

Set your calendars for the premiere on CBS and Paramount+ Showtime in February 2025—Beyond The Gates is ready to make history.
