Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine has reached $1 billion at the global box office by its third weekend, setting a new record for the superhero road-trip movie. The only other film to achieve this milestone in 2024 so far is Inside Out 2. In addition a comic book movie has not achieved this feat since 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Deadpool & Wolverine has emerged as the highest-grossing live-action film of 2024 by a significant margin, with Dune: Part Two following closely behind. Another standout from the Disney studio lineup, Inside Out 2, has proven to be the standout film of the year, raking in an impressive $1.56 billion and counting. This success means that Disney now boasts two billion-dollar hits for the year.
While Inside Out 2 currently stands at $1.56 billion worldwide, it is poised to potentially increase that total by an additional $20-30 million, inching closer to the $1.6 billion mark — although it may fall just short of reaching that milestone. However, if the film continues to exceed expectations as it has throughout its release, there is a chance that Pixar's animated sequel could surpass this projection and achieve even greater success.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to become the 11th highest-grossing Marvel Studios film in its 17-year history, and is expected to climb even higher on the chart by the end of its theatrical run.
