Box Office: Weekend Report: Lively-Reynolds Dominate

The Lively-Reynolds household must be all a buzz with the success the married couple has had at the box office. What can we call this Barbenheimer moment - LiveRey?

Over the weekend, Deadpool & Wolverine from Marvel Studios and Disney continued its box office dominance by remaining in the top spot in North America, grossing $54.2 million in its third weekend. The film has been breaking records and has now reached an estimated $494.3 million domestically and $535.2 million internationally, bringing its total worldwide earnings to over $1.029 billion.

Starring and produced by Lively, Sony's latest film It Ends With Us, driven by female talent, performed exceptionally well, securing the second spot with an estimated $50 million. This exceeded many predictions and marked Lively's most successful debut as a lead actress.

Lionsgate's high-budget film Borderlands made a disappointing debut nationwide, bringing in only $8.8 million. Despite featuring a star-studded cast including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, and Florian Munbteanu, the film fell short of expectations and was criticized by both reviewers and audiences.

Directed by Eli Roth, this video game adaptation cost over $110 million to produce but received negative feedback, earning a D+ cinemascore. To mitigate losses, Lionsgate plans to sell international rights.

Another film that premiered this weekend, although in fewer theaters, was the horror movie Cuckoo by Neon, which opened with $3 million.
