TVLine has obtained information about the new series on Netflix called Building the Band.
The Pussycat Dolls' frontwoman (and vocalist) will be accompanied on the judging panel by Destiny’s Child's Kelly Rowland and One Direction's Liam Payne. To align with the pop group concept, The Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean will serve as the show's host.
Netflix describes Building the Band as a “truly unique competition show” where singers will form bands in “booths” without actually seeing one another. In building their band, they must rely solely on “musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit.” Once formed, bands finally meet face to face, where “looks, choreography and style” suddenly come into play. Netflix is promising “incredible performances, compelling drama and one big goal — to find the next great music band.”
Executive producer Cat Lawson describes Building the Band as a courageous and daring project where singers are given the authority to establish their own band primarily focusing on chemistry. By disregarding appearances, the challenge is to foster a stronger bond with fellow band members. Despite facing tough choices and intense moments due to the limited number of bands, the end result is undeniably impressive, with bands emerging that, in her view, deserve a spotlight on the grandest stage!
