Chapter Chat Book Review: Spring Awakening

Writer's picture: StephanyStephany

Title:  Spring Awakening (ARC)

Author: J.S Jasper

Genre:  Sports Romance

Rating: Loved

Spice: Flamin Hot Cheeto

Synopsis: Mali has just landed her dream job with a Rugby team, she and her family have been supporting for years. Now she has to work side by side with her grumpy Rugby playing crush.

Zach is the black sheep of the Titans rugby club and not just because he’s a black bi man. He’s never been good with words and last year his words caused his current team to hate him. Now there’s a new beautiful bird working in the office this season. Will he be able to find the words needed to get her attention, and keep it?

Thoughts:  This book has some of the most mushy, heart-warming, cute and quirky banter, and I am HERE FOR IT! These two awkward babes are just the cutest.

The way they both truly grow to care for the other is so sweet and really beautiful. Mali really wants what's best for Zach, his family and his career. Zach just wants to see her happy.

The ease with which they integrate themselves in one another's lives and families, gives me all the ‘warm and fuzzies’.

However, Mali’s father Mosi steals the show with his child-like giddiness and fanboying of Zach and the rest of the Titans team. He had some of the funniest scenes, he truly is a gem.

I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a sweet and slightly spicy love story featuring grumpy/sunshine vibes between roommates and black queer rep.

Quotes:

Twenty-six is basically still a fetus.

-Mali

“I’m a fucking delight, after all.”

-Zach

Rugby is some of the most homoerotic shit she’s ever seen.

-Mali

“I’m so tired of playing acoustic pussy.”

-Mali
