Synopsis: It’s one thing to pretend to be an international pop star; it’s a whole other thing to pretend to be her, while dating a famous football player, Hunter Holt, and dodging her handsy ex. When feelings for her “fake boyfriend” start to get all too real, and rumors of a “fake Stella Wilde” hit the populace, Elodie’s life goes from “juggling too many balls”, to “fumbling the ball .”
When things hit the fan, will Elodie remain in one piece?
Thoughts: This is one of those “stay up all night reading” kinda stories.
I spent much of the first half trying to figure out how Elodie was going to get away with these lies and still not only come out better, but keep her relationship with Hunter in tack. Hunter is such a babe, he had me hooked almost immediately.
Elodie’s determination to not only do what she could for her mother, but also Stella and her fans was sweet but stressed me out too cause, whew…they were really doing THE MOST. The ease with which she fit in with Hunter’s crowd, even if he didn’t, was cute and the way she supported him and helped him grow was the kind of thing we all want. Hunter’s superpower is being supportive of Elodie while managing his own insecurities about the role he plays not only on his team, but within the confines of their relationship as well.
There is a difference between “knowing” you’re not good enough and wasting their time anyway vs “knowing” you’re not good enough and doing everything you can to make sure you become good enough, and Hunter does the latter. His determination to be a better teammate, friend and partner really seals the deal for me.
Although Elodie does work out her future goals in the end, I felt like her growth was lacking a bit. I wish I would have seen her stand up for herself more and take a more active role in her life instead of just letting everyone else’s demands run her the way they did, but I was still happy with both Elodie & Hunter’s growth.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The story was humorous, spicy and had some good banter (my fav).
