'Chicago Med' Season 10 Episode 9 "No Love Lost" Review

The episode opens quietly, a stark contrast to the chaos from before. Dr. Charles is discussing with Jackie the concern over her husband missing a therapy session. Meanwhile, Goodwin is fighting for her life, trying to regain control after being stabbed by her assailant. Archer rushes through the hospital, calling for security and a Code Silver, before breaking into the locked tenth floor. He arrives just in time to see Goodwin wrestle the knife away and stab her attacker. He carries her to the E.D., and the team works quickly to stabilize her. As they do, Maggie assures Goodwin, "We all have you."

The hospital attorney, Ted, expresses regret to Dr. Charles, wishing they’d had more security on her. Charles explains that they believed the threat was contained. Archer later informs everyone that Goodwin is stable, but still critical. Maggie says her daughter Tara is the medical proxy, and they must wait to make a decision on her care. Charles, visibly shaken, is left in suspense.

In the attacker’s room, Goodwin’s assailant is being treated, but Maggie notices how Goodwin’s knowledge of anatomy likely saved her life by avoiding major organs. When asked if Goodwin is dead, Maggie and Dr. Frost ignore the question, and the police take the assailant away.

Dr. Charles visits a patient from a previous episode, Ariel, who’s now asking for Dr. Reese. They talk about what happened, and the patient admits she’s been confused. Charles gently tells her she wasn’t actually taking medication, just placebos. Ariel is hurt and upset, feeling deceived. Just then, Ted interrupts with urgent news. Dr. Reese has filed a misconduct complaint about

Dr. Charles, claiming the hospital’s treatment was inadequate. Charles is shocked, but Ted insists they must meet immediately.

Meanwhile, Dr. Frost and Dr. Abrams are dealing with a tough case: Allie, a teenager with multiple brain surgeries and strokes,

who’s refusing another. Allie is frustrated, particularly about losing her hair, which she says leads to bullying. Abrams insists the surgery is necessary, but Allie won’t budge. Frost tries to empathize, but Allie pushes him away, claiming she just wants to be normal. She reluctantly agrees to the surgery after Frost promises he’ll shave his head in solidarity.

In the conference room, the hospital team discusses Dr. Reese’s complaint, with a risk facilitator observing. Dr. Reese and Dr. Charles have a tense moment but realize they both need to focus on the patient’s care. They acknowledge that the complaint might be a misunderstanding, especially after realizing their patient is suffering from episodic memory loss, explaining her confusion about the medications. Ted, noticing the shift, asks if they’re ready to resolve the issue, and Reese agrees to drop the complaint.

Back in surgery, Archer performs the Whipple procedure on Goodwin, but things quickly take a turn for the worse. He must make a snap decision, choosing to continue despite the risks. Fortunately, Goodwin pulls through, and Archer updates Tara and Dennis, who are relieved but exhausted.

Later, Frost checks in on Allie post-surgery and confirms the procedure went well. She asks about her hair, and to her delight, they managed to braid it instead of cutting it off. Allie’s mood lifts, and she teases Dr. Abrams, who sheepishly admits he has experience braiding hair thanks to his sisters. Allie thanks Frost, and he smiles, proud of his team.

In the conference room, Dr. Charles and Dr. Reese have a breakthrough. They finally put aside their differences and realize their patient’s condition requires immediate attention. Ted asks if they’re done with the complaint, and Reese nods, signaling a resolution.

Later, Maggie has a quiet moment with Goodwin’s attacker, reminding her that Goodwin survived because she’s strong something her attacker will never understand.

Goodwin eventually wakes up and shares a heartfelt conversation with Archer, thanking him for saving her life. She also tells him that she won’t accept his resignation, making it clear that Gaffney needs him, and so does she. Archer is reluctant, but Goodwin's plea is clear. Fade to black.
