TVLine has learned that the father-son duo will host ABC's broadcast of the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. The live ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15, at 8/7c from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles, coming just eight months after the delayed 75th Emmys aired in January.
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” the hosts said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15.”
“We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy genius to the Emmys stage as hosts,” adds Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego. “Eugene and Dan Levy are known for creating unforgettable laugh-out-loud moments on screen, and together, they are super-charged. I cannot wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for all of us.”
Well-known for their work, the Levys were the masterminds behind the hit comedy Schitt’s Creek, which dominated the 2020 Primetime Emmys by winning nine awards. Along with the show's recognition as Outstanding Comedy Series, Eugene and Dan Levy were also honored as Outstanding Lead and Supporting Actor. Eugene had previously been awarded two Emmys for his writing on the Canadian sketch comedy SCTV Network in 1982 and 1983.
We participated in a round table discussion regarding the nominations (announced on July 17).
