Evan Hofer OUT as Dex Heller on General Hospital

Updated: Dec 14, 2024

Evan Hofer is officially out at General Hospital, with his character, Dex Heller, killed off in the December 13, 2024, episode. Dex, who had been a fan-favorite since his debut in May 2022, died unexpectedly after being stabbed earlier in the week. Though doctors were optimistic about his recovery, Dex suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during a visit from his girlfriend, Josslyn, and friend Anna Devane. His sudden death, following a similar pattern to Sam McCall’s recent demise, suggests foul play—likely at the hands of Cyrus Renault, whom Dex had confronted about his proximity to Sam's death.

Hofer’s exit marks the end of a memorable run for the actor, who joined GH in 2022 after auditioning for several soap roles. His character’s complicated relationship with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his love story with Josslyn (Eden McCoy) made Dex a compelling presence. Hofer spoke fondly of his time on the show, especially working with Benard, whom he calls a mentor. He also shared how much he cherished the friendships he built with his co-stars, particularly Tabyana Ali and McCoy.

Despite his departure, Hofer has no ill feelings about leaving, calling the opportunity to wrap up his character’s arc “a rare thing.” While Dex’s death will leave a hole in Port Charles, fans are left to wonder who was behind it, as the mystery of his killer looms large. Hofer, meanwhile, looks forward to new projects, though he’s keeping details under wraps for now.
