The Found writers have a way of filling each episode with surprise and delight while pulling on emotional heart strings. This episode did not disappoint as it highlights the importance of empathy, compassion and family. Between the case of the week, the flashback and the current state of the M&A team, this is one to keep saved on Peacock. Our young Bella played by Jasmine
Washington also shined bright with a stellar performance. Her nuanced portrayal demonstrated her talent and range which just made you want to hold her tight and sing her fears away.
Keeping us locked in, the episode opens back at Trent’s home [SPOILERS] where Gabi finds Trent and Sir in a long-awaited stand-off. Eyes and guns locked on each other, Sir is determined to help Gabi and set her free from the inferiority that surrounds her. Before anyone moves, the lights are cut off and Sir pulls another Houdini out of the house. Power outage? Or is it Sir’s accomplice? Who is helping Sir?
As the police look for clues at Trent’s home, Sergeant Mallory pulls the brakes free with the demand for Trent to arrest Gabi. There is no stopping the train and Trent is reminded he set it in motion. The clock is officially back on and Gabi has twenty-four hours. With regret (or mixed feelings?) Trent tells Gabi she should run. But we know that’s not her style. Not until she solves one last case – for Ethan.
Summoned to the hospital, Ethan asks Gabi to help find Jared, a missing college student who was outed during a hazing event. As the episode proceeds, we not only learn how wonderful Jared is to those around him, but he is also a loving son who has parents eager to find him. Being secretly gay in a fraternity can be stressful, but the weight to be the perfect child for his parents is heavy. As well as hiding a relationship he was in with Brian, the Fraternity president. Oh, and he hates his major. The case of the week encompasses all the layers of a young adult coming of age film. Secret love, anxiety and freedom. Pulling all the clues together, the M&A team finds Jared in a car accident and swiftly gets him to the hospital.
The Found writers truly know how to bring tender moments into the fold. Seeing Jared reunite with his parents was a feel-good scene that embodies the importance of love and patience. My favorite line is when Jared confesses, he is a psychology major.
It led to a heart-warming hug that included Brian after being introduced to Jared’s parents. Ethan also comes to a resolve with Gabi. He doesn’t approve but he wants the best for Dhan and knows working with Gabi gives him a sense of purpose.
Also in the episode, Gina arrives who apparently can read lips! Learning that Gabi may be leaving for prison the next day, the M&A team feels deflated and lost. Not accepting defeat, Gina tells them to fight for Gabi because Sir plans to fight for her. Ouch.
And she is right. As Sir speeds up plans for “his Gabrielle”, Christian arrives with sedatives per his brother’s request. The caveat though is that he needs help to disappear. Sir who can’t be bothered with trivial interruptions says he can only help him and Gabrielle. The man is focused. As well as determined. Christian surveys his surroundings and realizes what Sir plans to do – kidnap Gabi. As he tries to leave, Sir knocks out his brother and leaves.
Flashing back to young Gabi and Bella, an excited Gabi is getting ready for her next chapter post Sir – going to Tulane college. Gabi gives Bella half of a heart necklace, so they can always think of each other. Reminding the audience and Sir that they will always be connected. As we know, Bella is the key to Gabi. Jasmine steals this scene as Bella when she finds a Passport with Gabi’s picture in it. But once again, Sir who quietly tortures this innocent girl retrieves the evidence before Bella returns, leaving her petrified. The man is evil and the show want you to remember that.
Present day, we see the rally cry from Gina motivates the team and all hands are on deck to save Gabi. They begin to clean her basement and hard drive at her home. As they prepare for Gabi’s arrest, Shanola and Kelli give us another raw and honest moment between them that anchors all the emotions that spooled from Gabi’s deceit. With her vision back, Margaret admits she was projecting her feelings and hurt onto Gabi. She doesn’t condone her actions, but they are family and will fix it together. They can arrest Gabi but with no evidence, the police can’t keep her. So as the team wait for the arrest, we also must wait one more week to see what happens to Gabi.
FOUND airs Thursday nights on NBC, streaming next day on Peacock.
