Can we talk? Lets talk! Episode eight was a multilayered therapy session that I was not expecting. Last week, I shared that I had several questions and many of them were answered. I don’t even know where to begin. One thing I do know, this episode was about healing. One thing I appreciate about Found is that it keeps pushing story forward for the ensemble as well as each character. The writers did an exceptional job binding the case of the week with the emotional-mental challenges the M&A team faces daily. Each person carries heartache with them as they struggle to move forward yet remain stuck and haunted by their past.
[SPOILERS] One of the main questions I’ve had was how did Margaret’s son, Jamie, disappear? On the day of his birthday, we finally learn what happened. And why Margaret can’t give up searching for him. We see in a flashback, a younger Margaret with Jamie, a little boy who wanted his mother’s attention. But like many who crave 5 minutes, she sends Jamie off to play as she finished a crossword puzzle. That ill fated moment led to her son disappearing within seconds. And the guilt has suffocated Margaret for every day, hour, minute and second Jamie is missing. So much so, that on his birthday, she can’t take it anymore. “I can’t live with the pain anymore,” she says to Dhan who finds her at the edge of a beach, ready to take her own life. Dhan, who fiercely loves her and all the members of M&A said, “If you get in that water, then I’m coming too.” His declaration of love moves Margaret’s heart and you can see she can’t bear the idea of hurting him or anyone else. Dhan loves fiercely, and his urge to protect those he loves brings him and Ethan back together as they worked to search for Margaret. Will they get a happily ever after?
We also learn that Zeke wasn’t taken into custody after the police raid and is safe at his home. Or so we are led to believe. Even though Zeke has his computer system back up, Sir appears at his door, and he has a motive. This show loves to surprise and delight! However, Sir is big on manners, and he arrives with a gift. Well, not the gift you would normally expect – like a fruit cake or a plant. No, Sir brings rage and anger – out of Zeke! So much so, that Zeke steps outside of his home without noticing. Feeling triumphant, Sir says, “I’m gonna fix you, I’m gonna fix all of you.” The man has goals. And as we all know, her name is Gabrielle.
We still don’t know who Sir is working with, but we have a glimpse that he wants either Zeke or Trent removed from the equation. We are led to believe maybe it was Zeke? Or maybe the scene is a complete switch and bait. However this plays, I’m enjoying Sir’s pivot from focusing on weekly cases to focusing on the M&A team, one by one.
The theme of safety is a beautiful thread line in this episode. The search for Olivia/Alice during her psychotic break touched many hearts. As the team searches for her, the idea of feeling safe and happy led them to her father’s grave. It also helped Dhan find Margaret. The beach was a happy moment with her kids. Gabi struggles with what her ghosts have done to her. To her team. Gabi believes she unleashed ghosts on Margaret but Zeke sees it otherwise. She is not responsible for their past traumas. Watching Gabi and Zeke console and protect each other was a nice moment toward healing hearts. Even though he may go to jail if caught, Zeke is still compelled to help Gabi. Most importantly, he wants to end the rain of terror Sir has over her and everyone else. With access to the letter Trent has over her, Gabi knows what she has to do. And where to find Sir.
“The counter to being afraid, is being prepared. Is fighting back.” In a flash back, we see young Gabi with Bella’s mom, Gina. Knowing that Sir is still a looming threat, she gifts Gabi with brass knuckles and says, “I’m gonna teach you….I’m gonna show you how to use them.” Bella’s mama doesn’t play! Back to present day, with knuckles on hand, Gabi enters the school as the episode closes with those sacred words over the speaker - “Hello Garbielle”.
And now dear friends we wait. And I believe it will be worth it.
Found is on hiatus and returns January 16th on NBC, streaming on Peacock.
