It’s TIME for Port Charles to say a FINAL Public Goodbye to Samantha “Sam” McCall.
Ava Jerome brings flowers to the gravesite of her brother, Julian Jerome. Lucas Jones is there visiting his father’s grave, while his sister, Sam, is being eulogized inside the church.
The Port Charles Church is filled with grieving family and friends paying their respects to a woman who was loved by ALL her family, and those she worked with, met and saved. She touched many lives. Minister Warren begins Sam’s funeral service with a prayer and invites others to share a memory. Nina whispers to Drew that she can’t believe Jason showed up. Drew says Jason needs to be there.
Molly goes to the pulpit. With sadness and trembling voice, she thanks everyone for attending, and shares some special memories of her sister, Sam. She spoke about the four Davis Girls, her Mom, Sam, Kristina and herself. Their closeness was evident. They were a force separate and especially together. They were vocal as many know. Sam was the patient, quiet, open, good listener and held no judgement. Molly asked her to help her prep for her first case as an official lawyer. She gave her wonderful advice. She only gave it when asked, and let people grow up without without her imposing herself on them. Molly tearfully expressed how much she will miss her sister. The Davis Family hugs with all of them will be missing one set of kind, supportive loving arms. They always will be Davis Women no matter what.
Kristina gets up to share her memory. She said Sam was always there to help her when she got into a chaotic moment. She was there to pick her up and support her with no judgement. Sam was her own personal safety net, and ‘no judgement’ was her superpower. She always told Kristina that she was not her mistakes. Sam was the ultimate big sister and protector. She will love and miss her sister forever. Alexis and Molly were overwhelmed with sadness and grief when hearing these words.
Joss arrives and asks her Mom, Carly, where Lucas was. Carly doesn’t know. Joss sits down in the pew behind her Mom.
Outside the church, Ava and Lucas talk about Julian and his brother, and sister, Sam. Ava’s not attending the service out of respect for Sam. She didn’t want to disrupt the service, because Julian and she were not liked by many attending the service. She asks Lucas why he wasn’t attending.
Spinelli went next to share his memories about Sam. She was one of the first to befriend him when he was at his quirkiest. In his younger days, he lived in a world of fantasy and computers, which was easier than relating to people. He was a real tech nerd. He met Sam, and she opened his world to more people. She was a cool girl that wore leather, and scaled buildings. Totally out of his realm of online friends’ world. Their friendship led him to his best friend Jason. Sam was a no judgement person who accepted people as they were. There was a cute video clip of Sam helping Spinelli become the person she knew he always was. She was a true friend and respected him. She also gave him the confidence to fall for the woman of his dreams, Maxie. He was so happy and appreciated their genuine friendship. He hopes Sam knew he was grateful for helping him find the love of his life. His memories of Sam were so touching and left deep heartache.
Next, Carly, shared her memories. She talked of the fights she and Sam engaged in. She was a tough, strong competitor, always came back swinging. They had a complicated relationship, and although it took a while, they became friends. She said Sam loved with her WHOLE Heart! Sam loved her sisters, Mom, and especially her children. She hoped her children knew they all carried that strength and love in their hearts.
Outside, Lucas, finally tells Ava why he’s outside and not inside the church honoring his sister with her family. He tells of his encounter with Danny earlier before the service began. Lucas told Ava that Danny thinks it’s his fault his Mom is dead. Ava surprisingly asks if it was.
Liz Webber later tells of her Sam memories. They also had some ups and downs before becoming friends. They went from being combative rivals to co-parents, to wonderful close friends.
Lucky Spencer shared his thoughts of Sam with everyone. They knew each other for a long time and accepted each other with no judgement. He also expressed his heartfelt belief of how heroic Sam was for coming to the aid of his little sister Lulu. Sam stepped up to help when she found she was cleared as a liver transplant donor for Lulu. He called Sam Lulu’s miracle. He was at a loss for words as to why Sam was taken from them. He could say that his family will forever be in her debt. Alexis burst into tears at his words.
Dante walked to the pulpit, and grief and sadness were in his voice. Sam came in a period of his life when things were dark, and she helped him rebuild his life. She gave him advice that helped him do that. They went from friends to lovers, built the best family. She was the Best Mom, and the BEST In-Your-Face PCPD Outfielder. Sam was big on second chances, and she was his Second Chance. He said she made him a better man because of the love she gave him. He was gonna take everything that’s happened and keep going. He says a heartbreaking “Love you guys” to his children as he steps down. Dante turns to Sam’s portrait and tells her she will always have his heart, and he will always love her.
Lucas tells Ava that he could be responsible for Sam’s death but won’t know until he gets the autopsy report. Ava doubts it will make a difference, because he will always carry a sense of guilt. Lucas reluctantly agrees, and says that Danny, Scout, Dante, Alexis, and anyone who loved his sister would also wonder. Ava offered comfort if he needed it because she knows about guilt. Lucas joked that it runs in the family. Ava suggested he change his last name to Jerome.
Sam’s family and friends continued sharing memories for her in the church. Rocko shared his thoughts of her being a Mom, to him, when he needed one. He felt the love and special feels Sam had for him. They even had a special handshake, and he would teach it to Scout and Danny. Sam gave them a lot, and she also gave him and his dad a family, Scout and Danny, when they really needed one. He made sure everyone knew they would always be a family.
Jason and Danny stood together as they spoke, too. Jason was not good at public speaking, but wanted to say something for Sam. He said how special she was and was grateful for Sam and their son, Danny. Danny told of his memories about his Mom traveling fast and loving it, her black leather jacket, her fav food choice and how much his Mom loved them ALL. This brought tears as Jason hugged his son.
Ava tried to console Lucas and told him she’s here for him. She let him know he wasn’t alone.
Alexis’ moments were spoken haltingly and with deep sadness. She let everyone know she didn’t get to know Sam until she was an adult. She regrets missing her childhood. She was joyful they found each other and decided to love each other.
Ava and Lucas shared memories of Julian. Lucas said he had no use for his Dad. The only thing he was grateful for was his sister, Sam. Ava said she was glad Julian died before his daughter did and was spared the loss of a child.
Alexis says her mother-daughter relationship with Sam was rough. There’s a flashback video clip of Alexis getting Sam to induce her labor and give birth showing how tough their relationship was, and needed to be. She loved her daughter, and had a strong, unbreakable loving relationship. Sam was her friend, anchor and she grounded her. Sam was the center of their family. Alexis shared that Sam was an adrenaline junky confirming Danny’s words, and after the shock of her exploits, was very impressed and proud of her. Tears flowing, Alexis says she will honor her daughter by being brave and strong like her.
Minister Warren ends the service with a loving prayer for Sam. Gio plays a song on his violin as everyone leaves. Chase gives Dante a hug as he leaves. Alexis sits alone not wanting to leave. Molly and Kristina come back in, and she asks them to sit with her. She wants one last moment with all her girls. She says love and grief are intertwined, and she knows it’s true, because her heart is breaking and bursting now.
One last video clip of Samantha McCall shows how Brilliantly Wonderful She WAS, her life, Her Family, and the people’s lives she touched.
