Ghosts Season 4, Episode 11, titled “Thorapy 2: Abandonment Issues,” struck the perfect balance between comedy and heartfelt moments, and I couldn't help but get a little emotional by the end. This episode focused on Thor and his unresolved issues with being abandoned by his shipmates, but also threw in some classic family drama that had me laughing and rooting for Jay and his sister.
The main plot revolves around Thor, as the anniversary of the day his shipmates left him behind to die rolls around. It’s clear this day brings up a lot of painful memories for him, and he starts acting out by messing with the house’s electricity. It was both funny and a little sad to watch Thor go from being his usual big, lovable self to being consumed by this deep hurt. Sam, being the caring friend that she is, suggests another therapy session for Thor. Pete ends up going on a journey to Norway to uncover the truth about Thor's abandonment, and while I was expecting some sort of grand betrayal, what he finds out is a little more... mundane. Turns out Thor wasn’t abandoned to die after all—he was simply forgotten. It’s a tough pill for Thor to swallow, but I felt for him. That level of emotional neglect would be hard for anyone to handle. Still, I loved that in the end, Thor learns that his real family is with the ghosts, and I think this realization might finally help him move on from the past. It’s not just about his old shipmates; it’s about the connections he’s formed now. Honestly, that was a beautiful message about the power of chosen family.
Meanwhile, the subplot with Jay and his sister was hilarious, but also a little relatable. When Jay's sister returns and needs a job, Jay, being the loving (yet reluctant) brother he is, offers her the position of restaurant manager. I could totally understand his hesitation, but I was kind of rooting for her to prove herself. Jay sends Sass to keep an eye on her, and naturally, the ghosts get involved and start thinking she’s messing up, which leads to a bunch of misunderstandings. It cracked me up watching the ghosts’ version of “problem-solving.” But in the end, Jay’s sister was actually saving him money, and I really appreciated how the show handled the sibling dynamic. After Jay explodes at her, they both end up reconciling, and she earns the manager position for good. I love how Ghosts always brings some heart into the humor, and this subplot was a perfect example of that. It also reminded me how complicated family relationships can be, but ultimately, it’s all about finding common ground.

By the time the episode wraps up, Thor’s emotional arc comes full circle. He may have been left behind by his shipmates, but he isn’t truly alone. It was a nice payoff for a character who’s often the comic relief but has so much depth. It felt really satisfying to see him let go of the past and embrace the people who care about him now.
Overall, this episode was a great mix of humor and emotional growth. It’s easy to get caught up in the laughs on Ghosts, but this one really made me think about how we all have some form of abandonment or hurt that we carry, and how it’s the people around us who help us heal. I’m really excited to see where they take the characters next. Would love to see more of Thor’s journey, and I’m always down for more sibling drama with Jay! Can’t wait for the next episode!
