Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 2 Review: Take Me to Church
Take Me to Church" was packed with drama! The ongoing tension surrounding Catherine’s health definitely sets a somber tone, especially as the characters grapple with their personal and professional struggles. Meredith's role in trying to find a miracle is always compelling, given her history and expertise. It’ll be interesting to see how she balances her responsibilities with the emotional weight of her relationship with Catherine.
The interactions between Lucas, Simone, and Mika add a youthful energy, but it seems like Mika’s frustrations are bound to create some tension. The dynamic between them could serve as a fun counterpoint to the more serious themes of the episode.
Amelia, Teddy, and Owen’s return to Grey Sloan sounds like it was filled with challenges. Teddy being on probation must be a hard pill to swallow, especially given her previous leadership role. It’s a classic Grey’s Anatomy twist to throw characters into tough situations just when they think they’re getting back on track. Amelia’s lab situation is another blow, likely forcing her to adapt and assert herself in new ways.
Bailey trying to reclaim her position as residency director only adds to the layers of conflict. Catherine's dismissal of her request in favor of discussing her health with Meredith highlights the personal versus professional struggles that often come to a head in the series.
The tension around Catherine’s diagnosis really ramps up the emotional stakes! Amelia’s immediate recognition of the tumors speaks to her expertise, but it’s heartbreaking to see Catherine come to terms with her possible fate. Her resignation and the notion of “this is how I die” adds a poignant layer, especially considering her history of strength and resilience throughout the series.
Meredith’s determination to save her frenemy reflects the deep complexities of their relationship. It’s interesting how she navigates the delicate balance between wanting to help and respecting Catherine's wishes. The fact that she confides in Bailey adds another layer to their dynamic, showcasing the trust and collaboration among the doctors.
Bailey’s advice about the tumors potentially being benign offers a glimmer of hope amid the anxiety. It’s a classic Grey’s Anatomy moment where hope and despair coexist, keeping viewers on their toes. Catherine's change of heart when she receives Richard's text is telling; it shows her desire to protect him from worry even as she confronts her own fears.
The setting at Joe’s is perfect for those quieter, more intimate conversations where characters can reflect and regroup. Catherine’s struggle to find the fight within herself is relatable, and it’ll be compelling to see how she handles the biopsy and what the results reveal.
Levi attempted to maintain a sense of professional detachment after learning that he did not secure the peds fellowship. However, this proved challenging as he and Monica cared for a boy named Cal who had a genetic disorder predisposing him to cancer. Tensions arose between Schmitt and the hospital's new chaplain, James (Michael Thomas Grant), as they had differing approaches to discussing death with patients. Despite initial reluctance, Levi eventually acknowledged the impact of his emotions on his work. Meanwhile, when Nora, an acquaintance of Owen and Megan's (portrayed by Floriana Lima), was admitted to the hospital, Teddy sought Owen's help for a critical surgery on Nora's esophagus. Thankfully, the operation was successful, and Nora shared a poignant memory related to Owen's father.
Gradually, Molly managed to persuade Blue to reminisce about the night they first met at a Halloween party. When asked about the reason for their breakup, he cryptically replied, "It was complicated," just before they were interrupted. Later, when she pressed him further, he confessed to cheating on her, describing it as a regrettable drunken mistake that haunted him daily. Their argument following this revelation led to the car accident that wiped out her memory. Despite the circumstances, Molly harbored no resentment, viewing it as a chance for a fresh start. She acknowledged the qualities in Blue that had initially drawn her to him, including his captivating eyes. Expressing a wish to remember him, Blue impulsively kissed her, leaving the possibility of future communication or reconnection open between them. (Hopefully, as they made a lovely couple.)
Following their kiss in the season premiere, Jules and Mika continued their affectionate display, unaware of Amelia's observation. Meanwhile, Winston invited Lucas to join him and Richard in the skills lab, which unexpectedly turned into a golf outing. This outing proved potentially beneficial for Adams, as Webber recommended a contact of his Uncle Derek's who could assist with his remediation. Winston also took the opportunity to subtly remind his former father-in-law of his surgical prowess during their interaction. At the end of the day, Teddy expressed her desire to reclaim the position of chief to Richard, who nonchalantly agreed. Subsequently, she was recruited by Mer and Bailey to conduct Catherine's biopsy. After being teased by Sydney, Lucas reconsidered his reluctance to redo the past year, realizing the importance of his connections alongside his medical skills.
