Hulu Drops Trailer for Paradise, New Thriller Starring Sterling K. Brown

On Thursday, Hulu released the first trailer for Paradise, an upcoming drama series from This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, starring Sterling K. Brown. The series is set to premiere with a three-episode launch on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, followed by weekly single episodes.

In Paradise, Brown plays the head of security for a former U.S. president in a serene, exclusive community that houses some of the world's most powerful figures. However, the tranquility of this idyllic setting is shattered when a shocking murder occurs, sparking a high-stakes investigation. From the trailer, it appears that the president, played by James Marsden (Westworld), is the victim at the center of the mystery.

The impressive cast also includes Julianne Nicholson (Mare of Easttown) as a political operative, Sarah Shahi (Sex/Life) as a therapist whose clients include influential names, and Percy Daggs IV (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey), Nicole Brydon Bloom (The Gilded Age), and newcomer Aliyah Mastin. While many plot details remain under wraps, Deadline previously reported that Nicholson’s character is deeply involved in political affairs, while Shahi's character navigates the high-stakes world of therapy for the elite.

Originally titled Paradise City, the thriller was written by Fogelman, who also executive-produces alongside Brown, Jess Rosenthal (This Is Us, Only Murders in the Building), and John Hoberg (black-ish, My Name Is Earl). Fogelman teased the show’s start of production earlier this year, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram. In June, Fogelman gave a glimpse of Brown’s character, saying, “He’s not Randall,” referencing his This Is Us role. “The character is completely different, completely different milieu,” he added. “But you know Dan… he can’t help but throw some heart in there. There’s always going to be heart.”

In addition to Paradise, Brown is set to star in Washington Black, Hulu’s upcoming limited series based on Esi Edugyan’s novel. The nine-episode historical drama follows an 11-year-old boy, George Washington “Wash” Black, who escapes a sugar plantation in Barbados after a traumatic event. Brown plays Medwin Harris, a protective figure in Halifax's Black community, who becomes Wash’s mentor and helps him navigate his new life in Nova Scotia.

With its star-studded cast and gripping premise, Paradise is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated dramas of 2025.
