Hulu has confirmed that its legal drama Reasonable Doubt will return for a third season, TVLine has learned. The news comes after the second season, which premiered on August 22 and concluded on October 17, captivated viewers with its intense twists and gripping storytelling.
The show follows Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi), a sharp, tenacious defense attorney who navigates both her personal and professional challenges. At the start of Season 2, Jax is still recovering from the emotional fallout of the first season’s intense trial and her affair. But her life takes another unexpected turn when one of her closest friends, Shanelle, admits to killing her husband in what she claims was self-defense. Jax is drawn into the case, but it quickly becomes clear that an aggressive prosecutor believes otherwise. As the case unfolds, Jax must balance defending her friend, saving her marriage, and preserving her well-being, all while dealing with the biggest legal battle of her career.
Season 2 also introduced a new face to the cast: Morris Chestnut, who joined as defense lawyer Corey Cash. However, after the case concluded in the finale, Chestnut’s character moved on from Jax's law firm.
In the shocking Season 2 finale, the truth behind Shanelle’s actions is revealed—she was protecting her daughter, who had killed her abusive father in self-defense. Despite being found guilty, Shanelle was given a lesser sentence and released from prison. Meanwhile, Jax and her husband Lewis were faced with a new legal challenge: a lawsuit from his ex-girlfriend over their premature son’s death.
Reasonable Doubt is created by Raamla Mohamed, known for her work on Little Fires Everywhere and Scandal. The series is produced by Onyx Collective, which focuses on telling stories from underrepresented voices and creators of color.
Executive producers for the show include Kerry Washington and Larry Wilmore.
With a compelling mix of legal drama and personal stakes, Reasonable Doubt continues to resonate with audiences, and Hulu’s early renewal for Season 3 ensures that Jax’s complex journey will continue.
