Kaley Cuoco to Star in and Executive Produce New Comedy Kansas City Star
Kaley Cuoco, a three-time Emmy nominee, has secured her next major TV project. The Big Bang Theory star is set to headline and executive produce Kansas City Star, a new half-hour comedy from the creative team behind Hacks—Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky.
According to Deadline, Kansas City Star is nearing a series order, with Cuoco playing the role of "a semi-famous actress who returns to her hometown to join a regional theater troupe."
Cuoco is currently leading Peacock’s Based on a True Story, which returns for its second season on November 21. She also continues to voice the title character in the animated Harley Quinn series on Max, which is awaiting a Season 5 premiere.
Best known for her 12-season run as Penny on The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco also led and executive produced The Flight Attendant for Max, a role that earned her two consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress. The series itself received an Outstanding Comedy Series nomination in its first season.
Meanwhile, Aniello, Downs, and Statsky, all Emmy winners for their work on Hacks, are set to bring their signature comedic style to Kansas City Star. Hacks took home the Outstanding Comedy Series award earlier this year, and its highly anticipated fourth season is set for release in 2025.
With a powerhouse team both in front of and behind the camera, Kansas City Star is shaping up to be a major hit.
