Ken Page, the beloved veteran actor and Broadway star known for his iconic voice role as Oogie Boogie in The Nightmare Before Christmas, has passed away at the age of 70. His friend Dorian Hannaway shared the news on Facebook, expressing her heartbreak and noting that he died peacefully at home.
Born on January 20, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, Page began his illustrious career in the chorus of the Muny outdoor theater before making his Broadway debut in The Wiz. His remarkable talent shone in various productions, including Guys and Dolls, Ain’t Misbehavin’, and Cats, where he portrayed Old Deuteronomy.
In addition to his Broadway successes, Page is well-remembered for his voice work in The Nightmare Before Christmas, where he brought Oogie Boogie to life.
His film career included roles in Torch Song Trilogy, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and Dreamgirls, among others. On television, he appeared in shows like Sable and had guest spots on Family Matters and Charmed.
Page also reprised his iconic role of Oogie Boogie in various video games, including the Kingdom Hearts series. His contributions to theater, film, and television will be cherished and remembered by fans and colleagues alike.
