Lioness Season 2 is keeping viewers on edge, and Episode 4 packs an emotional punch with a shocking twist during a warehouse raid. The tension continues to build as the team works to take down the Mexican drug cartel, Los Tigres, which is rumored to have connections with Chinese intelligence. With each episode, the stakes grow higher, and the cracks in the team are starting to show.
In this episode, Joe (Zoe Saldaña) is dealing with a growing suspicion about Josephina (Laysla De Oliveira), the new recruit who’s been struggling to integrate into Team Lioness. Josephina’s troubled background and wavering commitment to the mission come under scrutiny, and in Episode 3, Joe catches her in a lie about something significant. By Episode 4, it’s clear that Josephina’s role within the team is becoming increasingly precarious—but there’s little room for Joe to act. She’s caught between protecting her team and following orders from higher-ups who see
Josephina as a valuable asset, no matter the risks.
The episode opens with Joe back at CIA headquarters, recounting the events of the previous episode’s shocking finale. Despite Joe’s concerns about Josephina’s loyalty, the CIA insists that she’s too important to remove. Joe is reprimanded for taking her focus off the bigger picture, as Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman) reminds her that part of the mission is keeping control of soldiers trained to think for themselves. Joe, however, continues to feel the weight of the growing risks and tensions within the team.
Meanwhile, Joe’s day takes a dangerous turn when she’s tailed by a 4x4 vehicle. With the help of Kyle (David Strathairn), Joe discovers that the mysterious driver is working with Mexican officials—and he’s not happy with how Team Lioness handled the kidnapping in Episode 1. He demands answers, and while Joe refuses to give up any information, the tension between them rises. The agent makes it clear that the cartel already knows about their movements, and he threatens to put surveillance on Joe, pushing her to work with him rather than against him. It’s a tense standoff that raises more questions about allegiances and hidden motives.
The plot thickens as we check in with Neal (LaMonica Garrett), who is under pressure at work following a botched operation involving organ trafficking. He faces the difficult task of informing the parents of a girl who died during the procedure, all while holding onto a mysterious card, the contents of which remain unknown. This subplot adds another layer of complexity to Neal’s character, but it’s Cruz (Jill Wagner) who takes center stage in the emotional undercurrent of the episode.
Cruz, who was introduced in Season 1 and left the team after an emotional fallout with Joe, reappears when Joe confronts her at home. The two women clash over their past actions, with Cruz blaming Joe for turning her into a “monster” during their previous missions. Joe, however, needs her help. She explains the stakes surrounding Josephina and how Cruz is the only one who can rein her in. While Cruz initially refuses to rejoin the team, Joe makes it clear that she has no choice—Cruz is already assigned to the mission. It’s a power move that gets Cruz back in the fold, but the animosity between the two is palpable, and the cracks in their relationship seem to be widening.
Back at the warehouse, the team watches the surveillance footage from Episode 3, as Josephina tries to bond with the other members. Though she’s making strides in proving her value by offering useful intel, the tension between her and the rest of the team remains. Kyle receives a tip from the mysterious Mexican agent about a potential cartel operation at a nearby warehouse, but Joe is immediately skeptical. Her suspicion grows when she learns that the intel is over a month old, and she feels like they’re walking into a dangerous situation blind.
Despite her misgivings, Joe’s hands are tied as Kaitlyn has already approved the mission. The team splits into two ground units, with Josephina in the air, guiding them from above. The operation unfolds with some reluctance and missteps, but when Josephina finally follows through with orders—despite triple-checking the plan—the team is set in motion.
What they find inside the warehouse is chilling: dozens of children, mostly girls, being held captive, some with symbols branded on their skin. Joe manages to speak to one of the girls in Spanish, slipping a tracker into her shoe, but instead of mounting a rescue operation, Joe orders the team to pull out. Cruz is furious, demanding to know why they’re not doing more to help the children they’ve just discovered. But Joe’s decision is made, and the team leaves the warehouse, haunted by what they’ve seen, but powerless to act on it. The episode ends with the Lioness team, including a now-reluctant Cruz, returning to base, their spirits shaken but uncertain of the next steps.
Lioness continues to deliver heart-pounding, morally complex drama as it explores the blurred lines of loyalty, power, and the personal toll of high-stakes missions. In this episode, the team faces not only external threats but internal divisions that may prove even more dangerous. With the mystery of Josephina’s true allegiance, the unresolved tension between Joe and Cruz, and the ever-present danger of the cartel looming, Episode 4 sets the stage for even higher stakes in the episodes to come.
