‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ Crushes Netflix Ratings In Premiere Weekend

Updated: Sep 25, 2024

Ryan Murphy's latest addition to the Monster anthology, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, is making waves on Netflix, racking up 12.3 million views in its opening weekend. While this is impressive, it falls short of the staggering figures achieved by Dahmer, which garnered around 21.8 million views based on the updated reporting method.

The show premiered on September 18 and, despite initial success, it may not have the same level of audience anticipation as its predecessor. However, there’s potential for growth, especially with a related documentary set to air on October 7 featuring new interviews with the Menendez brothers. This could certainly drive more viewers to the series.

As with Dahmer, the Menendez Story has faced scrutiny regarding its depiction of the brothers and the infamous 1989 murder of their parents. Murphy has addressed the backlash by emphasizing the diverse perspectives included in the narrative.

In other Netflix news, The Perfect Couple remains a strong contender at No. 2 in TV, while the film Uglies has taken the lead in the film category with 26.8 million views, marking it as the most-watched title of the week.
