Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis to Star in Amazon's 'Scarpetta'
Prime Video has officially greenlit two seasons of Scarpetta, a highly anticipated adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels, with Nicole Kidman set to star as the titular medical examiner. Kidman’s character returns to Virginia and navigates intricate personal and professional dynamics, including her relationship with her sister, Dorothy, portrayed by Emmy winner Jamie Lee Curtis.
The supporting cast features an impressive lineup: Ariana DeBose plays Dorothy’s daughter, Lucy Farinelli-Watson; Bobby Cannavale takes on the role of former detective Pete Marino; Simon Baker stars as FBI profiler Benton Wesley; and Rosy McEwen appears as Past Kay Scarpetta. Adding a familial touch, Jake Cannavale, Bobby's son, will play Past Pete Marino. With this talented ensemble and the rich source material, Scarpetta promises to be a gripping mystery-thriller.
Both Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, who secured the rights to the Kay Scarpetta novels through their company Comet Pictures, will also serve as executive producers on the series. Liz Sarnoff, known for her work on Barry, will be the writer and showrunner.
Patricia Cornwell expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “I’m beyond excited that this is finally happening. This will be great fun for all, and I’m grateful for the immense talent that the show is drawing.” She praised Kidman and Curtis as immense talents and highlighted her enthusiasm for collaborating with Sarnoff and the teams at Blumhouse and Prime Video.
The character of Kay Scarpetta, who has captivated readers since her debut in 1990’s Postmortem, has appeared in over 20 novels, with the latest installment, Unnatural Death, released in November 2023. Previously, there were attempts to bring Scarpetta to the big screen, with Angelina Jolie and Demi Moore considered for the role in past years. The news of the Prime Video series adaptation first surfaced in February 2023, and now it’s officially moving forward.
