AMC Networks has decided not to renew Orphan Black: Echoes for a second season, following its 10-episode run that concluded on August 25. The spinoff, which stars Krysten Ritter, struggled to replicate the original Orphan Black's fervent fanbase and critical acclaim, earning a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and lower scores from viewers.
Set in 2052, the series centers on Kira (Keeley Hawes) and her wife (Rya Kihlstedt) as they assist an amnesiac woman named Lucy (Ritter) amidst themes of scientific manipulation of human existence. Despite a promising start, the series fell short of expectations linked to its predecessor, which was a groundbreaking hit for BBC America, earning Emmy nominations and a dedicated following known as the “Clone Club.”
Created by Anna Fishko, the show included contributions from original series co-creator John Fawcett and several executive producers from the original series. All episodes of both Orphan Black and Echoes are available for streaming on AMC+.
