Performer of the Week: Katja Herbers in Evil
Our pick for Performer of the Week goes to Evil's Katja Herbers as Kristen Bouchard. Evil aired its last episode ever this week over on streaming service Paramount+. We are going to miss that show and talk all about that here.
The finale of Evil is a potent mix of resolution and lingering mystery, wrapping up some major plotlines while leaving a tantalizing hint for what might come next. Kristen’s near-murder of Leland Townsend underscores her intense inner conflict and the series' ongoing exploration of morality and possession. By opting not to kill Leland, Kristen is spared from another moral crisis, but the choice to imprison him in the same cabinet from "S Is for Silence" adds a chilling layer of continuity and intrigue.
Katja gave a brilliant performance in that scene. You felt her internal struggle of taking a life but all in the name of survival for her and her children. Speaking of which - that vision she had of having her children taking away by child services and that blood curdling to silent scream was amazing.
The move to Rome and the rebuilding of the assessor program with David's help leads the way to a new chapter for Kristen and her family, blending their personal struggles with broader, institutional efforts against evil. The final twist with baby Timothy’s demonic traits leaves viewers with a lingering sense of unease and a what happens next question that will remain unanswered, unless a new streamer picks up the show.
The finale effectively combines some closure but leaves an open thread, making it a fitting conclusion while also keeping the door open for a possible return.
Katja left us loving Kristen but hating some of her choices. I spoke with Katja a couple months ago about wrapping up the season for SpoilerTV. Check out our chat below:
