Preview: Cruel Intentions from Prime Streaming Nov 21 - WATCH TRAILER

The beloved 1999 film Cruel Intentions has been reimagined for a new audience. Prime Video's upcoming series adaptation will premiere all eight episodes on Thursday, November 21. The release comes with an exciting trailer that gives a glimpse into a fresh yet engaging narrative filled with deceit and manipulation among the privileged elite.

Iconic References to the Original

The new trailer is brimming with references that will resonate with fans of the original. Kathryn’s iconic cross necklace makes a return, alongside Sebastian’s sleek black car. Seeing these visual nods is like a quick trip down memory lane. Plus, listeners can enjoy a modern version of The Verve’s classic “Bitter Sweet Symphony.” This song perfectly captures the themes of ambition and betrayal that are just as relevant in the new series.

This adaptation, however, is much more than a simple remake. It presents a unique storyline focusing on the ambitious students of Manchester College, an elite university in Washington, D.C., where social standing is everything. In this world, the dynamics of fraternities and sororities are complex and heavily influence the social ladder, creating an environment ripe for fierce competition and ruthless behavior.

Meet the New Characters

Central to this story are Caroline Merteuil, played by Sarah Catherine Hook, and Lucien Belmont, portrayed by Zac Burgess. These stepsiblings stop at nothing to ensure their reign at Manchester College continues unchallenged. When a violent hazing incident disrupts their Greek Life, their manipulative tactics ramp up. Their sights are set on Annie Grover, the Vice President’s daughter, making the stakes extremely high.

Supporting them is an impressive ensemble cast. Sara Silva shines as Cece Carroway, John Harlan Kim takes on the role of Blaise Powell, Khobe Clarke portrays Scott Russell, and Brooke Lena Johnson plays Beatrice Worth. Fans will also recognize Sean Patrick Thomas from the original film, returning as Professor Hank Chadwick, adding another layer of depth to the narrative.

What to Expect from the Series

Expect a thrilling ride filled with emotional turmoil. The new series will explore themes of heartbreak, loyalty, and the revealing of dark secrets among the characters. Set in a contemporary royal court, viewers will witness how power dynamics play out in the lives of ambitious youth.

Under the guidance of co-showrunners Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher, this fresh take honors the essence of the original Cruel Intentions while presenting a narrative that resonates with today’s audiences. With complex characters and a gripping story, both newcomers and longtime fans will find themselves drawn into a world of moral dilemmas and intense rivalries.
