PREVIEW: Percy Jackson Season 2: Everything We Know So Far
During D:23, Disney's Ultimate Fan Event this past weekend, new details were shared with attendees anticipating the return of Percy Jackson for its sophomore season. (Check out the full list of announcements here.) Here is everything we know so far about season two:
Season Two will be based on Sea of Monsters and the official logline is:
"Percy's friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos."
Due to an assault on the tree of the demigod Thalia, the defenses of Camp Half-Blood were compromised, prompting Percy and his companions to embark on a mission to recover the legendary Golden Fleece from the Bermuda Triangle, also referred to as the Sea of Monsters.
During the D23 Entertainment Showcase, Riordan and the main cast members, Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri, hinted at the arrival of St. Augustine Bridal Boutique, the shop where Grover seeks refuge while evading the Cyclops Polyphemus. Despite being only a week into production, the cast of the show implied that there are many surprises awaiting the audience and excitedly mentioned Grover's upcoming bridal gown fitting. They also teased the debut of Percy's half-brother Tyson and a smaller, furry version of Percy that squeaks, hinting at his transformation into a guinea pig.
Despite the anticipation surrounding the introduction of Percy’s half-brother, the endearing Cyclops Tyson, by Scobell and his co-stars, season 2 will also feature a variety of new characters. Currently, there is limited information available regarding the actors who will be joining the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 cast, except for Daniel Diemer who was announced as Tyson during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
On the other hand, if Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 aligns closely with Riordan's second book, it is probable that several additional Olympians and demigods will make an appearance, including Circe, the Goddess of Magic. Circe is portrayed as the proprietor of a magical beauty salon on the Island of Aeaea in the Sea of Monsters. It is Circe who deceives Percy into consuming a magic potion that changes him into a guinea pig.
Nevertheless, one of the most crucial casting choices for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 will revolve around selecting the actress to portray Zeus' daughter Thalia. Although the chances of viewers witnessing Thalia's mortal form before the season 2 finale are slim, her introduction will signify a significant turning point for the show's upcoming seasons. A pivotal character in Riordan's later Percy Jackson novels, the selection of the actor tasked with bringing her to life will be a crucial decision in shaping the show's future direction.
