Radio Host Wanda Smith Has Passed Away
Atlanta's entertainment scene has lost a significant figure with the passing of Wanda Smith, a beloved radio personality. According to Rick Caffey, Senior Vice President and Market Manager of Atlanta's V-103 radio, Wanda Smith passed away on Saturday, just a day after celebrating her birthday.
Smith started co-hosting the "Frank and Wanda in the Morning" show on V-103 – previously known as WVEE-FM – in 1998. She remained in that role for more than twenty years. Her tenure ended in 2019, as reported by the Atlanta-Constitution Journal, with her sole break being in 2013. She made a comeback in 2014 to co-host with Ryan Cameron.
In addition to her radio career, Smith was a well-known comedian. She was recognized as one of the writers for the popular TV shows "Def Comedy Jam" and BET's "Comicview," and she regularly performed at the Atlanta Comedy Theater in Norcross. Furthermore, she appeared in various movies, including Tyler Perry's "Madea Goes to Jail" and "Madea's Witness Protection."
Smith is survived by her husband, LaMorris Sellers, and their three children.
Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues.
