If you’ve been following Reacher from the start, then you know exactly what to expect—high-octane action, sharp dialogue, and a no-nonsense protagonist who doesn't stop until justice is served. Season 3 continues that tradition, once again delivering a solid, thrilling ride. As someone who’s a big fan of the show, I couldn't help but get excited when I saw the new season drop. But did it live up to my (admittedly high) expectations? Let’s dive in.
The story picks up with Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) embroiled in a new mystery that leads him to take on a dangerous criminal syndicate. What I love about the show is that while it’s all about the action, the narrative doesn’t just throw Reacher into mindless fights. There’s always a smart, calculated reason for everything he does, and that’s something that keeps me coming back. Reacher is more than just a punching machine—he’s a tactician, a guy who takes the time to understand the bigger picture before he charges in headfirst (though when he does charge, it’s as explosive as ever). This season brings that side of Reacher out in full force, and I found myself glued to the screen, watching him outthink and outfight every opponent that crossed his path.
Alan Ritchson, as always, is a perfect fit for the role. I think what stands out about his portrayal is the way he brings an emotional layer to Reacher that you don’t always see in action heroes. He’s this big, intimidating guy, but there’s a vulnerability underneath. It’s especially clear in Season 3, where you can sense his internal struggle at times. Whether it’s navigating dangerous territory or dealing with complex relationships, Ritchson adds depth to a character that could easily have been one-dimensional. Plus, let’s not forget the physicality of his performance—Reacher is a force of nature, and Ritchson’s ability to make every punch feel real and every fight scene electric is a huge part of what makes the show so engaging.
The supporting cast also deserves praise. Sonya Cassidy’s role as DEA agent Susan Duffy is one of the highlights of the season. Their dynamic is refreshing, as it’s clear from the beginning that Reacher and Duffy aren't just thrown together for the sake of the plot—they genuinely challenge each other, and their chemistry feels natural. Duffy isn't just a sidekick or someone to cheer Reacher on; she’s a strong, capable agent in her own right. I particularly appreciated how their partnership evolved throughout the season. It’s a relationship built on mutual respect, and that really makes a difference in a show where too many partners can feel like mere plot devices.
The villainous forces Reacher faces in Season 3 are as ruthless as ever. They’re smart, dangerous, and keep you on your toes. Without giving too much away, there were moments when I genuinely wasn’t sure how Reacher would get out of certain situations. The bad guys are formidable, and I think that’s important to the show’s pacing—it never feels like Reacher is just steamrolling through the plot. The stakes feel high, and that keeps the tension building. There’s also a nice balance between the action and the investigation. Even when things slow down a bit, there’s always a sense of anticipation, as you know Reacher is one step away from unleashing something big.
That being said, I did feel that some of the plot points in Season 3 were a bit predictable, especially if you’re a veteran of action thrillers. The twists aren’t as surprising as they could be, and I found myself figuring out where things were headed earlier than I would have liked. That said, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the show—it just meant I wasn’t as blown away by the surprises. However, for fans who enjoy a more straightforward approach to storytelling, this may not be an issue at all.
What I really appreciate about Reacher in general—and especially this season—is its unapologetic embrace of its genre. It’s not trying to be anything it’s not. The show’s all about justice, action, and Reacher’s unyielding pursuit of the truth. There’s no attempt to overcomplicate things with unnecessary subplots or forced emotional beats. The simplicity is refreshing. It's just good, old-fashioned storytelling with a protagonist who’s undeniably compelling to watch.
Reacher Season 3 delivers everything fans love about the series—thrilling action, a strong and charismatic lead, and a plot that keeps you engaged from start to finish. While it may not reinvent the wheel and some of the twists may be predictable, it’s still an incredibly enjoyable experience. Alan Ritchson continues to make Reacher his own, and the supporting cast is more than up to the task of keeping things interesting. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the series, Season 3 is sure to deliver the kind of action-packed, adrenaline-fueled entertainment that makes Reacher a must-watch. I’m already looking forward to what the next season has in store.
“Reacher” Season 3 premieres Thursday, Feb. 20, on Prime Video.
