John Erwin, the iconic voice behind beloved childhood characters such as He-Man and Reggie Mantle from The Archie Show, has passed away at the age of 88. Erwin died of natural causes around December 20 in his home in Camarillo, California, according to a statement released by his PR firm Celebworx.


His contributions to animation and television have left a lasting impression on fans across generations, ensuring his place in the hearts of many.


Erwin's career began in the 1950s, but it was his transition to voice acting in the late 1960s that truly defined his legacy. He first charmed audiences as Reggie in The Archie Show in 1968, showcasing his remarkable ability to bring animated characters to life. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Erwin made his television debut in 1959 as Teddy in the American Western series Rawhide. Shifting to voice acting sparked a pivotal change in his career, highlighted by his prominent role as He-Man. He voiced He-Man, Prince Adam, and Beast Man, leaving a distinctive mark on the series until its conclusion in 1985.
