Say What? My Lady Jane Canceled at Prime Video
That gasp you just heard was from all the 'My Lady Jane' fans after hearing that Prime Video canceled the show after one season, Deadline reports.
The historical fantasy drama series had a single season consisting of eight episodes, which was released all at once on June 27th. The ensemble cast featured Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Kate O’Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Henry Ashton, Máiréad Tyers, Michael Workeye, Joe Klocek, Brandon Grace, and Will Keen. The series took inspiration from the novel of the same title penned by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.
The official logline for the series states, “Gird your loins for the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded, back in good ol’ 1553. Actually… f*ck that. We’re retelling history the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up.”
Gemma Burgess created the series and worked as an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Meredith Glynn. Jamie Babbit, Sarah Bradshaw, and Laurie MacDonald also served as executive producers, with Babbit directing five out of the eight episodes.
Although the show did not attract a large audience, it received positive reviews from critics. The first season currently has a 91% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
