Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs - Everything We Know So Far About His Charges
What’s done in the dark will always come to light and that’s certainly been proven true.
On Monday Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in Manhattan and charged with Sex Trafficking, Interstate Transportation for Prostitution, and Racketeering.
The U.S Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams held a press conference Tuesday detailing the three-count indictment against Combs.
“The indictment alleges that between at least 2008 and the present Combs abused, threatened, and coerced victims to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct,” Williams said. “To carry out this conduct, Sean Combs led and participated in a Racketeering conspiracy that used the business empire he controlled to carry out criminal activity.”
Some of the activity also reportedly included forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice.
These were chilling words that didn’t even scratch the surface of what all the charges entailed. As stated by Williams, the mogul violated people in multiple ways allegedly using threats of force to get victims to engage in extended sexual performances with male commercial sex workers.
“Combs allegedly planned and controlled the sex performances which he called Freak Offs,” Williams said. “And he often electronically recorded them.”
These alleged “Freak Offs” sometimes lasted days at a time, involved multiple commercial sex workers, and involved a wide variety of Narcotics including Ketamine, Ecstasy, and GHB. These substances were used to keep the victims obedient, and if they weren’t, Combs would subject them to physical, emotional, and verbal abuse.
The district attorney referenced the 2016 surveillance footage that was released in May of this year which showed Combs dragging, kicking, and throwing a vase at Cassie Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel.
The indictment states that control was maintained over the victims by their financial support being threatened, or them being given career opportunities by the music tycoon. The victims were also monitored, and their physical appearances were at times dictated.
“The indictment alleges that on more than one occasion Combs carried or brandished firearms to intimidate victims and witnesses,” Williams said.
The charges also allude to the fact that Combs didn’t act alone and that people on his payroll facilitated the “Freak Offs.” Supervisors, personal assistants, and household staff allegedly booked the hotel rooms and stocked them with drugs, baby oil, personal lubricant, linens, and lighting. These individuals also helped Combs cover up his crimes Williams said.
There are also allegations of Combs making phone calls to witnesses with the purpose of pressuring them to stay silent.
Warrants have been executed to search his residences in Miami and Los Angeles. Firearms, ammunition, a total of 1,000 bottles of lubricant and baby oil, and Combs’ electronics were seized which showed videos of the sexual activity of the victims.
Williams reiterated at the press conference that no one is above the law and that anyone who engages in criminal conduct will be prosecuted regardless of status or wealth. He also thanked the witnesses who spoke up and the agents and prosecutors who worked tirelessly on the investigation.
Combs has pleaded not guilty and has been denied bail. The investigation against him will still be ongoing as he awaits his trial.
