The beloved detective Sherlock Holmes is returning to the screen in an exciting new twist: Sherlock & Daughter, a thrilling mystery series coming to The CW. This fresh take on the classic character is set to offer audiences a mix of suspense, drama, and family dynamics, all while staying true to the essence of Sherlock Holmes’ iconic investigative genius.

What sets Sherlock & Daughter apart from traditional Sherlock Holmes adaptations is the introduction of Amelia, a young woman who discovers that Sherlock Holmes may be her estranged father. The show begins with Amelia, played by Blu Hunt, discovering her mother’s mysterious murder, leading her on a quest to find answers. In this process, she learns of her connection to Holmes, played by David Thewlis, and the two must work together to uncover the truth behind the death and solve a series of complex cases.

David Thewlis, known for his versatile roles in Harry Potter and Fargo, steps into the shoes of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. His portrayal promises to bring a darker, more nuanced edge to the character, as Holmes navigates his complicated relationship with his daughter while solving high-stakes mysteries. Blu Hunt, who rose to fame with The Originals and The Beauty series, takes on the role of Amelia. Her character is expected to bring a mix of vulnerability and determination, making for an intriguing pairing with Thewlis’ stoic Holmes.

In addition to the leads, Sherlock & Daughter boasts an impressive supporting cast. Dougray Scott, who starred in Mission: Impossible II and Desperate Housewives, plays the iconic villain, Professor Moriarty. Other key cast members include Antonio Aakeel as Swann, Orén Kinlan as Shaw McPherson, Gia Hunter as Clara Anderson, and Ivana Miličević as Marjorie Anderson.

Sherlock & Daughter is not just an American series; it will also be available internationally. While it will first air on The CW in the United States, audiences across the globe will have access to the show through various networks and platforms. In the UK and Ireland, it will be available via Discovery+, and internationally, viewers can tune in through channels such as Yle in Finland, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, SVT in Sweden, RÚV in Iceland, and SBS in Australia. This wide-reaching distribution ensures that Sherlock fans around the world won’t miss out on the latest chapter of the iconic detective’s legacy.

The show is the brainchild of Brendan Foley, with James Duff serving as the showrunner. Filming took place in Dublin and County Wicklow, Ireland, and production wrapped up in June 2024. Initially, the series was slated to premiere on January 1, 2025, but now, the official air date for the United States has been set for Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Fans eagerly await this new chapter in the Sherlock Holmes saga, with anticipation continuing to build.
