Soap Fans Join Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH) on X Rival App BlueSky

Nancy Lee Grahn, best known for her role as Alexis Davis on General Hospital, has announced she is leaving X (formerly Twitter) after 15 years on the platform. The actress, who launched her account in March 2009, cited her concerns about the platform’s direction under owner Elon Musk as the main reason for her departure.

In a statement shared with her 200,000+ followers on Wednesday, Grahn explained her decision: “I’ll no longer be posting on a platform controlled by a meglamanical [sic] oligarch now that our country has committed suicide. It feels unsafe.” Although she did not directly name Musk, her message was clear, expressing dissatisfaction with the direction X has taken since the billionaire’s acquisition of the platform.

Earlier in the day, Grahn made a preemptive announcement about stepping away from all of her social media accounts, citing concerns for her family’s safety. “I have done all I can do. I will be deleting all my social media in protection of my daughter. I’m so sorry. May God help us all,” she posted.

Grahn’s exit from X follows the announcement of Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, which triggered a wave of political commentary from various celebrities.

In her statement, Grahn indicated that she would keep her X account active only to protect her name from being “hijacked,” but emphasized she would no longer engage with the platform.

"I’ll remain here solely to protect my name from being hijacked & will repost only," Grahn wrote, encouraging her followers to connect with her on other platforms, including Threads, BlueSky, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

Shortly after her final post on X, Grahn made her debut on BlueSky, a social media platform created by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. Grahn shared her reasoning for the switch, saying, “I am here now as I can no longer defend speaking on a site controlled by a dangerous meglamaniacal [sic] oligarch.” In a post that followed, she clarified the nature of her new online space, stating, “My page, my rules. Trump supporters will be blocked. This is a safe space for those of us in need of a place to commune with like hearts & minds & humor when we can find it again.”

Grahn has long been vocal about her political beliefs, particularly in the realm of women's rights. She has used her public platform to express her views on various issues affecting American citizens, from abortion rights to political activism. In 2022, she made a powerful statement on the red carpet at the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, wearing a shirt with the words “reproductive freedom” and carrying a purse emblazoned with “bans off our bodies,” in protest against the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on abortion.

Grahn was not the only one to leave, many fans of Daytime TV including us here at Soap Wire made the switch to a more peaceful app.

As Grahn steps away from X and shifts her social media focus to platforms like BlueSky and Instagram, it’s clear that her activism, particularly around political and social justice issues, will continue to guide her public presence.
