Soap Wire's Performer of the Week: Carson Boatman

This decision might be surprising, but it is worthy of mention. Since Carson Boatman, playing Johnny, gave a firm warning to his father, EJ, there has been a marked improvement in his work. Johnny always knew his dad was severely flawed, manipulative and deceptive at times, but now his insight is better than ever.

His confrontation with EJ regarding the Rafe and Arnold switch was a watershed moment. Johnny let it be known that if EJ were involved, it would cause irreparable damage to their already frayed relationship. The quiet fury, the incredulity, the built-in distrust—it was all there, simmering just beneath the surface, and Carson pulled it off magnificently.

Then came Roman's cautionary words, subtly referencing EJ's past transgressions without quite saying that he raped Sami. Johnny's inner conflict was palpable—the questions flashing in his mind, the confusion, the desperate desire for knowledge. That knowledge came in the most ghastly form: from Kate, who had to break the news to Johnny of the horrific fact of his own origin.

The context of that truth rested on Johnny—his twin sister was born of love, but he was a product of rape. The sheer horror, rage, and anguish on his face yelled in louder whispers. Carson didn't just say the emotion through the lines; it was on his body, the way his world clearly collapsed before us. And then, at last, the flash point—going home and unleashing his unbridled anger on EJ in a brutal punch. It was animal. It was visceral. It was deserved.

This plot has been in the pipeline for a very long time, and we eagerly await seeing Carson Boatman follow Johnny on this life-altering discovery. What will he do? How will it shift what's going on between him and Chanel? Are we finally getting that long-wished-for clash between Johnny and Sami courtesy of Alison Sweeney and Carson Boatman being the emotional payback this moment is due for?

Kudos to Carson Boatman for an electrifying performance. We’re eager to see what he does next.
