Soap Wire's Performer of the Week: Michael Graziadei as Daniel on 'Young and the Restless'

Some might be surprised by my pick for Performer of the Week, but I had to remind myself—this choice is based on acting, not my feelings about the character. While I have my issues with Daniel on The Young and the Restless, his portrayer, Michael Graziadei, delivered a standout performance this week.

As Daniel confronted Sharon after discovering she confessed to Heather’s murder and framed him, Graziadei powerfully conveyed Daniel’s anger and heartbreak. His frustration and disbelief were palpable throughout the scene, as he struggled to understand how Sharon could do something so devastating—killing someone he loved and framing him for it. Of course, fans know Sharon is innocent, but Daniel and everyone else in Genoa City remain in the dark.

Daniel’s fury wasn’t reserved for Sharon alone. He also unleashed his frustration on Nick, who doubts Sharon’s guilt (rightfully so). This provided a compelling moment where Daniel not only called out Nick but also wrestled with his own guilt for not believing Phyllis, who had insisted Sharon was to blame all along.

This storyline is setting the stage for even more drama. Once the truth comes out—that Sharon didn’t kill Heather, frame Daniel, or try to harm Phyllis—apologies will need to be made, and emotions will run high.

While Daniel may not be my favorite character, I have to say Michael Graziadei did an incredible job this week. He captured Daniel’s anguish, rage, and sorrow as he grieved the loss of the woman he loved, dealt with being framed, and faced his mother’s hospitalization. I’m excited to see the fallout when the truth is finally revealed.
