Storm Reid has officially announced that Gia, the younger sister of Rue Bennett, will not appear in the upcoming third season of HBO’s Euphoria.
“Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning for the third season,” Reid revealed during an interview with Rotten Tomatoes on the red carpet of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Awards.
Despite her departure, Reid expressed deep gratitude for her time on the show. “I’m so, so indebted to the cast and crew of that show, to HBO,” she said. “Euphoria is a really special thing, and I’m so glad it’s a part of my legacy. Being part of such a cultural phenomenon is something I’ll always treasure. I’m forever grateful.” Reid added that she’s looking forward to Season 3 as a fan, saying, “I can’t wait to see what’s in store!”
While HBO has yet to release a complete cast list for Season 3, the network confirmed in July that the “principal” cast — including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, and Alexa Demie — will return.
Additionally, Colman Domingo revealed during a July 2024 episode of Watch What Happens Live! that he’ll reprise his role as Ali, Rue’s sponsor.
Season 3, which was renewed back in February 2022, is set to begin production in January 2025.
Reid’s Gia won’t be the only absence felt in the new season. The show tragically lost Angus Cloud, who played fan-favorite Fez, to an accidental overdose in July 2023. Former cast member Barbie Ferreira, who portrayed Kat, also confirmed her departure in August 2022, and Javon Walton’s Ashtray, who died in a Season 2 finale shootout, is not expected to return.
Beyond Euphoria, Storm Reid’s impressive resume includes roles in The Last of Us on HBO, Netflix’s When They See Us, and appearances on Chicago P.D. and NCIS: Los Angeles.
