In tonight's episode of The Equalizer, Robyn found herself grappling with emotions she thought she had under control, all thanks to the unexpected return of Detective Marcus Dante. Their past connection was palpable, and although Dante left for LA to salvage his career, Robyn never held it against him. His decision had been necessary, but seeing him back in New York stirred up unresolved feelings. Dante had returned because his father’s health had taken a turn for the worse, but in an unexpected twist, Big Ben made a miraculous recovery, throwing Dante’s world into disarray.
Dante’s return didn’t just make Robyn reflect on their past; it made her reconsider her current relationship with her ex-husband, Miles. The timing was uncanny. Both Robyn and Miles had gone through their own personal transitions, and after their respective breakups, they were cautiously exploring the possibility of getting back together. But Dante’s reappearance made Robyn question whether her heart was really in it with Miles, or if it was a convenient distraction from the unresolved feelings she had for Dante. She doesn’t really know what she wants, and I think that's the most relatable part of her character—she often buries herself in her work because it’s easier than facing the complex mess of emotions she's feeling. It's raw, and it's human.
Meanwhile, Robyn was pulled into another case, this time by Shauna Harris, the wife of comedian Craig Harris. Someone had tried to run Craig down after one of his shows, but when Robyn investigated, she found it odd that Craig didn’t want to press charges. As the investigation unfolded, Robyn discovered that Craig’s life was more complicated than it appeared. He had sabotaged his own car, hoping to collect insurance money after his career took a nosedive during the pandemic. It was a desperate and dark turn, one that showed just how far people will go when they're out of options.
The twist in the case came when Robyn learned that another comedian, upset about being booted off Craig’s tour, was the real mastermind behind the attempt on his life. It was a perfect example of how personal grudges can escalate to dangerous levels. Craig’s confession was chilling, but it also highlighted the theme of desperation that runs through the episode: the lengths people will go to when they feel backed into a corner.
Personally, I thought this episode was a powerful exploration of Robyn’s internal struggle. She's a character who prides herself on being in control, yet this episode shows just how vulnerable she really is. Dante’s return made her face emotions she wasn't ready to deal with, and her case with Craig forced her to confront the complexity of human behavior—how sometimes, people make choices that seem senseless, but they come from a place of deep fear and desperation. It also makes you wonder: how often do we bury our own emotions or make decisions based on fear of the unknown? Robyn might be a vigilante, but she’s just as human as the people she helps. This episode really highlights that delicate balance between strength and vulnerability, and it left me thinking about the tough choices we all have to make when our hearts and minds are at odds.
