'The Equalizer' Season 5 Episode 6 "The Fight for Life" Review

In tonight's The Equalizer, the tension between family dynamics and a high-stakes case made for an intense hour. Miles was preparing to meet Cam, Delilah's boyfriend, for the first time. Delilah, fully aware of her dad's tendency to be a bit intense, asked Robyn to be there for support. Robyn, having already met Cam, was ready to mediate—but their plans quickly unraveled when a new case demanded Robyn's attention.

A man approached Robyn with a troubling request: his sister, Jenna Banks, had gone missing from prison. The authorities claimed Jenna had been released after serving seven years, but her brother had waited outside all day and never saw her leave. Robyn's instincts told her something was off, especially when it came to the second missing woman, Ciara Perry. Despite records showing their releases, there was no video footage to back it up. Robyn's determination kicked into high gear, and she had Detective Dante arrange for her to be "locked up" as an inmate, all in the pursuit of the truth.

Meanwhile, Mel went undercover as a guard, focusing on finding official records. Robyn, always bold, took a more direct approach, making herself a target in the process. She started by asking inmates about Jenna, but they were too wary to talk. When that didn’t work, Robyn escalated things by cutting off the TV that the officers were watching, leading to a violent confrontation. In a twist of fate, she told the inmates that Jenna had killed her cousin, fully embracing her "bad girl" persona. Robyn claimed to be seeking revenge on Jenna for the murder, cementing her position as a troublemaker in the prison.

The chaos didn’t end there. Robyn incited a brawl in the dining hall, cutting in line and challenging several women to fight before the guards intervened. In the midst of the melee, Robyn got a crucial piece of information from an elderly inmate: Jenna was likely in solitary confinement for attacking Bianca Silva. Bianca was a powerful figure in the prison, controlling the other inmates while the guards looked the other way. Robyn's strategy was risky, but it pushed her right into the heart of the prison’s power struggle.

It was hard not to admire Robyn's ability to maneuver through such dangerous waters. While Mel worked from the inside to uncover records, Robyn was shaking things up, showing that she was willing to do whatever it took to get results. I couldn’t help but think that this is what makes Robyn such an intriguing character—her fierce commitment to justice, even when it means putting herself in harm's way.

When Robyn was knocked out by a guard after starting the brawl, I genuinely feared for her safety. She was thrown into a cell, not in solitary as expected, but in a special area meant for those who had just fought. Robyn couldn’t communicate her plan to Mel, and Harry was locked out of access to the security cameras, leaving them all in the dark about what had happened to her. The stakes were higher than ever, and I couldn’t help but feel a mix of concern and admiration for how Robyn kept moving forward despite the danger.

Mel eventually found the missing pieces of the puzzle, uncovering that the guard who’d been involved in the disappearances was Darren Rigby. This man had been shuffled from prison to prison due to his misconduct. Rigby had been the one to knock Robyn out, dragging her to a remote area to avoid detection. I found it fascinating how Mel’s resourcefulness—knocking out an officer to gain access to security footage—was a major turning point. Sure, it was a risky move, but it was the kind of action that made you realize just how much Mel had grown since joining Robyn.

Back home, things weren’t going any smoother. Miles and Cam’s first meeting was full of tension. Miles, disapproving of Cam’s decision to bypass college for his own business, barely let the young man speak. It was uncomfortable to watch as Miles essentially shut Cam down without giving him a fair chance to explain himself. Delilah, ever the voice of reason, had to remind her father that she was the one dating Cam, not him. In that moment, I really felt for Delilah. She was in the middle of trying to protect her dad’s feelings while also standing up for her relationship, something that must have been difficult given how set Miles was in his ways.

Meanwhile, Robyn was caught in the middle of an underground fight club run by Bianca, where prisoners were forced to battle each other for the entertainment of outsiders. Bianca, enraged by Robyn’s defiance, set up a "death match" between Robyn and Jenna. As the two women prepared for the fight, they tried to devise a plan to escape, but their efforts were foiled. Mel’s cover was blown, and all three women found themselves trapped in a dangerous game controlled by Rigby and Bianca.

The tension in these final moments was palpable. I honestly didn’t know how it would end, but when Dante arrived with federal agents, I felt a rush of relief. Justice was finally served as the illegal fight club was shut down, and the missing women were rescued. It was a bittersweet moment, though, because while Bianca didn’t care about facing additional charges (she was already looking at life sentences), Jenna was finally freed and reunited with her brother. There was a sense of closure for these women, but also a feeling that the scars from their experiences would linger.

The episode closed with Dante confiding in Harry about the obstacles between him and Robyn. Dante, now in LA while Robyn remained in NYC, seemed to have lost his chance with her. He believed Robyn had moved on, especially after seeing her hug Miles, leaving him feeling like she had given up on him. I couldn’t help but feel for Dante. His struggle to communicate with Robyn, paired with his doubt about whether she still cared, added another layer of emotional depth to the episode. The complexity of their relationship really stood out to me. It’s clear that both of them care for each other, but sometimes timing and miscommunication can make even the strongest connections feel distant.

In the end, tonight's episode was a rollercoaster of action, intrigue, and emotion. Robyn once again demonstrated her unrelenting pursuit of justice, but it also highlighted the personal toll her work takes on her relationships. As for Dante and Robyn, it seems they may have a long road ahead of them before they can figure out what’s truly in their hearts.
