The Gurgler is here to spew toxic mucus—erm, throat-based proton blobs—over "Tecto: Eye of the Storm." This latest episode of The Franchise is packed with laughs, showcasing how the series is really finding its footing. From Eric’s outrageous outbursts to the engaging dynamic between Adam and Kyle, every moment feels delightfully chaotic. I never expected Adam and Steph to be such a charming pair, but their interactions add a fresh layer of humor.
The episode kicks off with a hilarious exchange, where one line stands out: “Eric just 9/11-ed himself on a golf cart.” This kind of sharp wit is what makes the show shine. We’re introduced to Daniel (Himesh Patel) and Dag (Lolly Adefope), standing on the studio lot with a poster for Many Man 2 behind them. Daniel excitedly shares that Tecto is set to feature a cameo from Many Man, which he believes will elevate the film to must-see status.
However, the excitement quickly turns to chaos when they discover that Many Man can’t make it, and in his place is Eric, aka the Gurgler (Nick Kroll). The team panics, especially as they realize the Gurgler’s power is to hawk up toxic mucus. It’s a bizarre setup, and the humor is right on point. Adam, played by Billy Magnussen, adds to the absurdity with his blue-nose antics, claiming it’s just eye drops to make his “f*ckable” eyes stand out.
The hilarity continues as we witness the group preparing for the scene with the Gurgler. The rehearsals are a riot, especially when pronunciation debates over Eric's made-up words unfold. The dialogue feels fresh, and the chemistry among the characters is electric, particularly the rivalry between Adam and Kyle.
One standout moment occurs when Jaky Wheeler (Sandra Huggett) reveals that a crucial mollusk character, Rufus (Justin Edwards), must be shaved for a wedding but wants to keep his hair for the occasion. Eric’s insistence on kindness over production speed shines through, giving a warm touch amid the chaos.
Amid the comedy, Adam’s struggle with Kyle’s relentless teasing adds depth to his character. His request for Steph to help him craft comebacks is both relatable and laugh-out-loud funny. Their brainstorming session is a highlight, showcasing the show's knack for clever dialogue.
The episode wraps up with the team infiltrating the Centurios 2 set, greeted by the ridiculous “Uncle Pat’s Fun Stick.” It’s moments like these that keep me coming back for more—where absurdity meets humor in a way that feels both familiar and refreshingly unique.
The episode delivers another hilarious episode filled with sharp writing, clever character dynamics, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. If this episode is any indication, the series is only getting better from here!
