The Night Agent is returning to action this winter, with Netflix announcing that Season 2 will premiere on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Along with the release date, a teaser trailer has been unveiled — giving fans a first glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming season.
Based on Matthew Quirk’s bestselling novel, The Night Agent quickly became a Netflix sensation with its pulse-pounding action and political intrigue. In the first season, Gabriel Basso starred as Peter Sutherland, a low-ranking FBI agent who works in a basement office in the White House. His monotonous job — monitoring a phone that never rings — suddenly takes a dramatic turn when a frantic call from cybersecurity expert Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) pulls him into a high-stakes conspiracy. The two find themselves tangled in a dangerous web of political corruption, with a trail that leads all the way to the Oval Office. Along the way, they are pursued by not only deadly assassins but also powerful figures in the White House.
Filming for Season 2 began in January 2024, with production taking place in Thailand and other international locations.
With the premiere date officially set, here’s everything we know so far about The Night Agent Season 2:
What’s New in Season 2?
Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) and Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) are both returning for the second season, but they may be the only familiar faces. As showrunner Shawn Ryan shared, The Night Agent will follow a unique storytelling structure, with each season featuring a self-contained story, often in a different location. This means that many characters from Season 1 may not carry over into future seasons.
In fact, even Hong Chau’s fan-favorite character, Diane Farr, could be written out. “We told a pretty complete story for Diane Farr in Season 1,” Ryan explained in April 2023. “But I never rule anything out.” He also noted that Chau, who has become a highly sought-after actress, might have other commitments that could impact her return.
New Cast Members
While many of the characters from Season 1 may not be back, Season 2 introduces a host of fresh faces, including:
Amanda Warren (East New York) as Catherine Weaver, a seasoned veteran of the Night Action program who trains and oversees agents.
Brittany Snow (American Dreams) as Alice, Peter’s mentor and partner in his first Night Action mission.
Teddy Sears (The Flash) as Warren, a high-ranking intelligence officer at the center of a Night Action investigation.
Arienne Mandi (The L Word: Generation Q) as Noor, a junior aide in the Iranian mission to the UN in New York.
Louis Herthum (The Peripheral) as Jacob Monroe, an international businessman with far-reaching connections and a knack for extracting valuable information.
Berto Colon (Power Book II: Ghost) as Solomon, a former Marine and fixer with a murky past.
Michael Malarkey (The Vampire Diaries) as Markus, a military leader with unwavering loyalty to his war-criminal uncle.
Keon Alexander (The Expanse) as Javad, head of security for the Iranian Mission to the UN.
Navid Negahban (Homeland) as Abbas, the dignified Iranian Ambassador to the UN.
Rob Heaps (Imposters) as Tomas, a wealthy and ambitious man eager to restore his family’s power after his father’s conviction for war crimes.
Season 2 promises to be just as intense, if not more so, as new characters become embroiled in a deadly global conspiracy, with Peter and Rose once again at the heart of the action.
With a gripping premise, a fresh wave of characters, and a high-stakes narrative, The Night Agent Season 2 is shaping up to be another must-watch series for Netflix fans. Mark your calendars for January 23, 2025, and get ready for the next thrilling chapter of this action-packed political drama.
