Milo Callaghan, known for his role in Doctor Who, has been cast as the main character in the upcoming adaptation of John Grisham's bestseller by USA Network, according to a report from TVLine. Callaghan will portray Rudy Baylor, a recent law school graduate who finds himself in a legal battle with seasoned lawyer Leo Drummond and his former law school girlfriend. Alongside a scruffy paralegal, they delve into two intertwined conspiracies related to the mysterious death of their client's son. In the 1997 film version, the role of Rudy was played by Matt Damon.
In June, USA Network granted a series order to The Rainmaker , with Michael Seitzman (Code Black) and Jason Richman (Stumptown) collaborating on the pilot and serving as executive producers. John Slattery, known for his role in Mad Men, has been confirmed to portray Leo Drummond, Rudy's courtroom rival, originally played by Jon Voight in the movie. Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer) will play Sarah, Rudy's girlfriend, while the role of the paralegal, portrayed by Danny DeVito in the film, remains vacant.
Callaghan, who has appeared in Doctor Who, FBI: International, and The Spanish Princess, is a rising talent. His next project is co-starring alongside David Tennant and Aidan Turner in the upcoming Hulu miniseries Rivals.
