Tracker Season 2 Episode 4 "Noble Rot" Review: Blood and Bonds: Unraveling Secrets

In the fourth episode of Season 2 of "Tracker" entitled "Noble Rot," Colter Shaw (played by Justin Hartley) and Reenie Green (played by Fiona Rene) face personal conflicts intertwined with a compelling mystery. The episode commences with a tense scene where a woman (portrayed by Jessica Sutton) is seen running through dark grapevines, chased by an unknown attacker. Fast forward ten hours, Colter arrives in Napa Valley to probe the vanishing of Quinn Ridgely, a woman who disappeared from a corporate event at a vineyard.

Quinn, who co-owns a software company with her spouse Gray (played by Sofia Hirt), has gone missing, prompting Gray to offer a $50,000 reward for her safe return. Initially doubtful about the circumstances of the disappearance, Reenie questions whether this is a case of corporate abduction due to the absence of ransom demands. However, as Colter examines the couple's residence, he notices signs of discord: disheveled blankets on the sofa hint at separate sleeping arrangements, and Gray discloses a disagreement over their company's direction.

Further investigation leads Colter to encounter William Locke (played by Neil Jackson), the vineyard owner, and Peter Reynolds (played by Roshawn Franklin), the security chief. Their reluctance raises Colter's suspicions, prompting him and Reenie to secretly review deleted CCTV footage. The intrigue deepens when Locke reveals that Quinn was seeking "toad venom" for a psychedelic experience, implying a more complex situation.

Tracing Quinn's steps brings Colter to a construction site where he uncovers her glasses and a severed human foot, sparking concerns of foul play and suggesting a more sinister operation at the vineyard. The inquiry intensifies upon learning that Quinn was abducted by a contractor named Jesse Pardue and his partner Rona (played by Gloria Garayua). Quinn's accidental discovery of hidden bodies at the site exposes a grim history of migrant worker fatalities concealed by the crew.

Amid escalating tension, Colter races to rescue Quinn, who is held captive and desperate to bargain for her life. The climax unfolds dramatically as Rona betrays Jesse, leading to his demise in a wood chipper just as Colter arrives. The scene is shockingly brutal, showcasing the darker themes that "Tracker" is unafraid to delve into.

On a personal note, Reenie introduces Colter to Elliott Rush (played by Michael Rady), a former colleague she has been communicating with. Their budding relationship adds complexity, especially as Colter navigates his own romantic entanglements, including his history with Billie. The dynamics shift as Colter playfully probes Reenie about her bond with Elliott, highlighting the playful tension between them. Their interactions reveal a shared understanding that while their romantic paths may diverge, a strong bond remains.

The episode ends with Colter bids a bittersweet farewell to Reenie, encapsulating their intricate relationship. Reflecting on their shared past while enjoying a beer at the vineyard, he emphasizes the enduring appreciation and affection between them. This episode skillfully intertwines Quinn's mystery with the evolving personal lives of its main characters, setting the stage for future developments in both the case and their relationships.
