‘Transformers One’ Debuts With $39M; ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Goes To $330M

Transformers One has debuted with a global total of $39 million, including $14 million from 50 international markets, which only represents 40% of its overseas footprint. Directed by Josh Cooley, this marks the first animated Transformers film in nearly 40 years, but its opening came in below expectations both domestically and internationally.

Despite positive reviews and strong anticipation, the international performance was softer than hoped, likely influenced by the back-to-school period. Major markets like Brazil, Italy, Korea, China, Germany, the UK, and France are still to come, which could bolster its overall earnings as the film finds its audience. Comparatively, its international results are 3% lower than The LEGO Batman Movie and 16% below Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for similar releases.
Mexico led the international box office with $2.2 million, while Australia opened at $1.5 million and Japan brought in $820,000. The film also grossed $3 million in IMAX.

In other news, Universal's The Wild Robot opened in eight markets, grossing $6.9 million, with China contributing $4 million. The film received excellent reviews and has seen strong audience reactions.

Other films in the international box office included It Ends with Us ($4.5 million), Despicable Me 4 ($4.2 million), and Alien: Romulus ($3.4 million).
