Two Charged with Murder of 'General Hospital' Star Johnny Wactor

Updated: Oct 25, 2024

The family of Johnny Wactor hopefully can feel a little better today.

Two individuals have been charged with the murder of the General Hospital actor, who was tragically killed over Memorial Day weekend. Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada face murder charges, along with attempted robbery and grand theft, as reported by our affiliate site Deadline. Leonel Gutierrez has also been charged with attempted robbery and grand theft, while Frank Olano is accused of being an accessory after the fact to the crime. All four suspects were apprehended and processed by the LAPD last Thursday, as announced by the authorities.

Wactor, aged 37, was fatally shot in Los Angeles during a robbery attempt on May 25. According to witness testimonies gathered by the LAPD's Homicide Bureau, Wactor had just finished his shift as a bartender at a nearby establishment and was heading towards his vehicle. Upon arrival, he was confronted by three individuals who were in the midst of stealing the catalytic converter from his vehicle, which they had raised using a floor jack. Shockingly, the victim was shot without any provocation by one of the perpetrators.

Upon responding to a report of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon-Shooting, LAPD officers discovered Wactor with a gunshot wound. Immediate aid was administered by the officers, and the Los Angeles Fire Department also arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, Wactor succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner later confirmed that Wactor's death was caused by a gunshot wound to the chest, ruling it as a homicide.

In 2020, Wactor made his debut on daytime television, playing Brando Corbin on ABC's General Hospital. His character, Brando, arrived in Port Charles and was revealed to be the son of Bonnie Burroughs' Gladys, who was believed to be deceased. Brando ultimately tied the knot with Sasha (portrayed by Sofia Mattsson) but met his demise at the hands of Heather Webber (Alley Mills).

Following the tragic news, the official GH Instagram page expressed its sorrow on May 26, stating, "The entire General Hospital community is devastated by the sudden loss of Johnny Wactor. He was a unique talent and a joy to collaborate with every day. Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with his family and friends during this challenging period."

Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.
