Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part Two follows with 15 nods, while Netflix’s Emilia Pérez secures 11.
Monday, November 25, 2024 (Los Angeles, CA) – The Hollywood Creative Alliance (HCA) has unveiled the nominees for the 2024 Astra Film Awards and Astra Creative Arts Awards. The dual ceremonies will take place on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles, featuring a luncheon and dinner. Both events will be recorded and streamed on KNEKT.tv and YouTube. Actor, comedian, and writer Peter Kim is set to host the Astra Creative Arts Awards, while two-time Emmy and NAACP winner Loni Love will lead the Astra Film Awards.
Universal Pictures’ Wicked made history this year as the most-nominated film in the HCA’s eight-year existence, securing 19 nods. Among its nominations are Best Picture, Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo, Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande, and Best Director for Jon M. Chu.
Trailing closely, Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part Two garnered 15 nominations. Denis Villeneuve’s sequel earned recognition in categories such as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cast Ensemble. Netflix’s Emilia Pérez claimed the third spot with 11 nominations. The film received nods for Best Picture, Best Actress for Karla Sofía Gascón, dual Best Supporting Actress nominations for Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana, and Best Cast Ensemble—an honor it previously won at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Mubi’s darkly comedic The Substance also made waves with 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Demi Moore, Best Supporting Actress for Margaret Qualley, and Best Director for Coralie Fargeat.
Other standout films include Amazon MGM’s Challengers with 9 nominations, Paramount Pictures’ Gladiator II with 8, A24’s The Brutalist and Neon’s Anora with 7 each, Focus Features’ Conclave with 6, and both DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot and Searchlight’s A Real Pain with 5 nominations each.
In addition to the film nominations, the HCA announced special honorees for the Astra Creative Arts Awards. Costume Designer Colleen Atwood will receive the inaugural Artisan Icon Award, composer Kris Bowers will be honored with the Artisan Achievement Award, and cinematographer Giovanni Ribisi will take home the Artisan Breakthrough Award.
The ceremonies promise to be a celebration of exceptional talent and creativity across the film industry.
