Wally Amos, Creator of Famous Amos Cookies, Passes Away at 88

Wally Amos, founder of Famous Amos has sadly passed away. His brand was among the first to introduce high-quality cookies in its own stores and became globally recognized in the baked goods industry. He passed away on Tuesday at the age of 88 at his residence in Honolulu.

His children, Shawn and Sarah Amos, attributed his death to complications related to dementia.

The cookies were widely praised for their taste, but Wally Amos himself was also a significant attraction. Known for his vibrant personality, trademark Panama hat, and colorful shirts, he enthusiastically promoted his brand, often embarking on extensive promotional tours.

Starting with just one store in Los Angeles that earned $300,000 in revenue in its initial year, the company grew to a $12 million business by 1981 (equivalent to approximately $42 million today). This expansion included numerous Famous Amos stores nationwide, along with the sale of packaged products in various grocery and specialty stores.

Our condolences to his family and friends.
