Sovrano Industries is having a meeting when some of the members begin foaming at the mouth and passing out. While this is happening, Special Agent Will Trent is preparing for his return to work and his first official case. He discovers Betty had chewed his favorite shoes. Faith says he can find another pair, as Nico sits on the sofa smiling and holding Betty.
Angie Polaski, the Waldorf Estates security officer, gets a call about a live body being dead. She rushes over to the pond and finds out it’s actually William the Swan. William’s swan mate follows her as she takes him away. Poppy, a very talkative child and Alma, Poppy’s aunt, walk along with Angie. Angie notices Alma has a bad bruise on her face, but Poppy said she fell in the dark on the way to the bathroom. Angie tells Alma she’s there if she needs to talk. Amanda is at her office selecting clothes for Sonny, while Will and Faith update her on the Sovrano Industries case. Mr. Sovrano, one of the company’s owners angrily demands an answer of what happened from Faith and Will at the hospital. Faith asks for specifics on anyone who would target them or their company board members. The doctor interrupts them with news that Mr. Sovrano’s sister, Jacinta, just died.
In her office, Angie reports the death of William The Swan to animal control. Angie and the handyman make jokes about the loss of William. Angie looks closer at the swan and finds it has a finger in its mouth. She calls Ormewood for assistance. After further review, Will and Faith can’t find a motive for the board members’ murders. They think the killer could be Francesca, an estranged sibling. They question her and find nothing.
Ormewood goes to Angie’s office and takes the finger to the coroner, Pete Chin, to get fingerprints. They don’t find any record of them, but can tell her when the finger was severed, nothing more. Angie thinks there’s a mystery happening at Waldorf Estates. The coroner tells her he swabbed under the fingernail and found some skin they could run a DNA test on, and chicken poop. This gives her a clue. She goes to a house about a sign violating the community regulations. It turns out to be Poppy’s house, and she invites her in for muffins. Her uncle has a bandage around his hand. Alma looks nervous, and is rushed away by her husband. Meanwhile, Will and Faith review the facts with Amanda in the conference room. They still have no real leads. Nico calls Will to tell him about Betty’s visit with the vet. Betty runs off and finds a scarf under Will’s bed, and brings it to Nico. Will returns to solving the case.
Angie calls Ormewood to tell him about the guy with the missing finger. He warns her about not messing up her review chances. In the meantime, Nico goes to see Angie with Betty. She asks if Angie’s talked with Will, and if she will return. Betty found a candy-like bracelet while on a walk with them. Angie goes to investigate where Betty found it, in a shed. The door is slightly open, but locks when the handyman comes in. In the GBI conference room, GBI agents, the coroner, and Will get together with the Atlanta Police Dept detectives and do a re-enactment of what happened to solve the Servano case. They each pretend to be one of the members at the meeting, while the coroner describes the poison found in each dead body, and Will updates the murder board.
It’s fun how they imitate a play dinner party. Amanda figures it out. Back at the shed, Angie calls Kathy for help. She receives a call from Ormewood, and he tells her about the DNA results from the finger. The DNA belongs to a handyman, Jonathan Shelly. Angie answers him with a coded message, and Ormewood and Franklin rush in to help Angie. They arrest Jonathan. He asks to speak with Angie and says he was trying to help Alma. He already did his time in prison, and that’s why he kept quiet. Will and Faith question the assistant, Olivia, who the evidence points at her as the killer. She worked hard for Marcello, but didn’t kill anyone.
Ormewood and Franklin get called for a double homicide and can’t help with Jonathan. Angie tells Kathy, the Waldorf Estates leader she quit, and goes to help Alma. At GBI, the Servano siblings have a fight in the hallway. Will asks Francesca Servano to tell what she knows, and she does. Her sister, Jacinta, wanted to leave the company. Angie recklessly heads to the chicken farm where Poppy’s family worked. She leaves a message for Ormewood before going to the chicken farm office. She gets in a fight with Poppy’s uncle after he follows her into the farm’s office. She overpowers him and ties him up. Will and Faith and Rocco go to the hospital to see Marcello Servano.
He’s been making Jacinta cover up multiple sexual assaults, and the death of a hotel housekeeper. He poisoned everyone including himself at the board meeting. He didn’t expect to kill his sister. Will and Faith arrest him. At the ADP, Angie gets a commendation for what she discovered as the Waldorf Estates security officer. The captain officially welcomes her back to the department. Jonathan thanks Angie for freeing him, as he leaves lockup. At the GBI, Faith gives Amanda the update of the Servano case. Amanda shows Faith a condo with a past, but it’s nice and available. Faith’s been looking for a new place. That night at Will’s house, Betty runs into the kitchen wearing Angie’s scarf, and he recognizes it. Nico tells Will she and Betty went to see Angie. She asks him if he will ever get back together with Angie. He doesn’t think so.
This episode was a mixture of terrifying drama, mystery, sadness, multiple mini-storylines and comedy, the Will Trent unique formula! It was so good and captivating. Love how they introduced Pete Chin more into the investigative part this time, too.
